— Adam Rubin (@AdamRubinESPN) August 18, 2014
Dates: August 15-18
Results:
W 3-2, W 7-3, L 2-1, L 4-1
Current Record: 59-67, 12.5 GB in NL East, 7.5 GB in Wild Card
Recaps:
MVMet: The Mets starting
pitchers were great this series – at least something was! Well, winning the
first two games was pretty great too.
LVMet: The Mets
offense averaged three runs on four hits per game, which is TERRIBLE! No player
had more than two hits, so how can I choose just one?

It
was a mostly effective effort from the pen against the Cubs, especially Vic
Black and Jeurys Familia. That said, they gave up some key runs in the last two
games of the series. Perhaps it would be wise to just shut Jenrry Mejia down? Buddy
Carlyle was going to give up a homerun at some point, and he was otherwise very
effective. If Dana Eveland proves to be an inconsistent option, the Mets might
not hesitate to DFA him, as they have no long-term plans with Eveland, and they
may prefer his roster spot go to a minor leaguer in September.
Looking Ahead:
The Mets travel to the west coast to play two in Oakland and
three against the Dodgers.
Tuesday at 10:05 PM ET: Dillon Gee (4-5, 3.69 ERA) @ Scott
Kazmir (13-5, 2.78 ERA)
Wednesday at 3:05 PM ET: Zack Wheeler (8-8, 3.49 ERA) @ Jeff
Samardzija (5-9, 2.96 ERA)
