Mets Series in Review: vs. Giants

Dates: August 1-4, 2014
Results: Lose 3/4
 L 5-1, W 4-2, L 9-0, L 4-3
Current Record: 53-59, 8.5 GB in East, 7 GB in Wild Card

Recaps:

Monday – Mets.com, ESPN NY

MVMet: Jacob ∂eGrom bested Peavy and the Giants in one of the best-pitched games of the year, for the first seven innings at least. He’s been an amazing surprise this year, and he’s pitched his way into the NL ROY discussions.
LVMet: The Mets offense managed just 17 hits over the four game series, and nine of those came in Monday afternoon’s loss - not good enough.

The Mets bullpen had a rough couple of games to end the series against the Giants, which is not something Mets fans want to see as they head to D.C. to face the Nationals. The Mets bullpen was a big problem when they faced the Nationals to open the series, but the two teams haven’t faced since mid-May, and this bullpen has been much better lately.

Looking Ahead:

The Mets start a 7-game road trip against Washington and Philadelphia, and then return home for another chance at the Nationals.
Tuesday at 7:10 PM: Zack Wheeler (6-8, 3.60 ERA) @ Gio Gonzalez (6-7, 3.88 ERA)
Wednesday at 7:10 PM: Jon Niese (5-7, 3.24 ERA) @ Doug Fister (10-3, 2.68 ERA)
Thursday at 7:10 PM: Jacob ∂eGrom (6-5, 2.77 ERA) @ Jordan Zimmerman (7-5, 3.00 ERA)
