Keeping
track of the hottest minor leaguers in the Mets farm system.
Hitter of the
Week: There were a few prospects who put up better numbers than Michael
Conforto’s .978 OPS this past week, but none who drew as much attention as this
top prospect. The calls for him to play in Binghamton started before the season
started, and they’re getting pretty hard to ignore.
Starting Pitcher
of the Week: Steven Matz held Reno hitless for 6.2 innings in his best
start of the season Friday night. Much has been made of his high walk total
early, but despite the 12 walks, Matz has held hitters to a .484 OPS so far.
Relief Pitcher of
the Week: I think this honor has to be split between two St. Lucie
relievers – Ricky Knapp and Kyle Regnault. Knapp was great in what looks like a
piggy-back start with Kevin McGowan – the bullpen was taxed, but McGowan was
used out of the pen Sunday night. Regnault has been great in his affiliation
ball debut, and pitched 4 scoreless during the PSL Mets 17-inning win Friday
night.
Team of the Week:
No team stood out based on their W-L record, but the 51s got some impressive
hitting performances, and the Matz near no-no (Bowman was perfect through 4.1
IP Sunday too), so they take the ‘honor.’
