Recapish
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Portland Sea Dogs were scheduled for two Saturday
evening, with major league rehabber Seth Lugo starting for the home team in
game one. Lugo was very sharp and needed just 94 pitches for the 7-inning
complete game. The only run Lugo allowed came on the only extra base hit
against him all day, a massive oppo taco blast for Rafael Devers in the 4th
(announcers said ball was hit into the wind too!). Tomas Nido went deep for the
Ponies during a big 1st inning outburst, and the game was never
close after that.
Lugo
started each of the first three innings with a strikeout and faced the minimum
through three. His first strikeout came on 94 MPH heat against Danny Mars. It
sounded like the next two strikeouts came on heaters too, though no velocity
was given. The Rumble Ponies turned a double play behind Lugo in the 2nd
to erase a Jeremy Barfield single.

Kevin
Kaczmarski worked a walk in his first PA of the day and then came around to
score on Tomas Nido’s fourth homer of the season. Cody Decker followed with a
single, went to second on a walk to Kevin Taylor, and to third on a Matt
Oberste single as the Ponies loaded the bases. Decker and Taylor came home on a
Gustavo Nunez single, but Oberste was thrown out at third on the play to end
the rally.
Luis
Guillorme reached on an infield single in the 2nd, but the inning
was cut-short after a double play.
Taylor
singled with one out in the 3rd and came home on David Thompson’s
tenth double of the year two batters later.
Devers
took Lugo deep with two outs in the 4th.
Champ
Stuart led off the 4th with a single, stole second and then went to
third on a Kaczmarski single, but another Bingo double play ended a potential
rally before it started.
Lugo
started and ended the 6th inning with strikeouts, but the three
Portland batters to face him between those strikeouts singled. Fortunately,
Champ Stuart threw out Danny Mars trying to extend his hit into a double. Lugo
then made it four straight strikeouts to end the game when he struck out the
side during the 7th.

After
two straight wins against Portland to start the series, the Rumble Ponies
turned to P.J. Conlon for game two, which started thirty minutes after this
game ended.
