The
Mets selected David Peterson and Mark Vientos with their first tow picks of the
draft Monday night and the draft continues Tuesday, with rounds 3-10 beginning
at 1 PM (it will be moving much faster on Tuesday and Wednedsay).
3rd round: Quinn Brodey, lefty-hitting outfielder
from Stanford.
THAT. JUST. HAPPENED!! BRODEY INSIDE-THE-PARK, GO-AHEAD HR w/2 outs in the ninth!! #GOSTANFORD https://t.co/QKNjEeorq5— Stanford Baseball (@StanfordBSB) April 17, 2016
4th round: Tony Dibrell, RHP from Kennesaw State
The purpose of this dispatch is to OFFICIALLY ENDORSE both the (a) changeup and (b) ungovernable joy of Kennesaw State RHP Tony Dibrell. pic.twitter.com/9OqRmIJpAD— Carson Cistulli (@cistulli) March 20, 2017
Big time performer in Tony Dibrell to the #Mets. Low-to-mid-90s guy with four pitches and pot above average SL/CH. https://t.co/GHoRzXSK4J— Vinnie Cervino (@vcervinoPG) June 13, 2017
5th round: Matt Winaker, lefty hitting OF/1B from Stanford
Want more angles of that @mattwinaker over-the-board home run for @StanfordBSB?— Pac-12 Network (@Pac12Network) April 7, 2017
We knew you would.#Pac12BSB pic.twitter.com/I4NgZ6LzLY
6th round: Marcel Renteria, RHP from New Mexico State U
7th round: Conner O'Neil, RH RP from Cal State U, Northridge
8th round: Trey Cobb, RHP from Oklahoma State
9th round: Cannon Chadwick, RHP from the University of Arkansas
10th round: Stephen Villines, RH RP from the University of Kansas
Day two was less exciting than day one, but the Mets should be able to save money on some of these senior picks from later in the day and splurge on a few high upside prep guys who are expected to be tough signs. Tony Dibrell is the most exciting pick in my eyes, but the lefty hitters from Stanford could prove interesting, and apparently Marcel Renteria can reach the upper 90's (and intends to sign with the Mets). Any one of the college relievers could prove interesting, but it'll be a longer climb to the upper levels of the system for them.
