Recap:
The
Las Vegas 51s won their first game of the 2015 season Saturday night behind
some great pitching. They took a lead on a 2R-HR from Allen in the 1st
and never looked back. Darin Gorski was wildly effective in his first start
since last July 21st, working with at least on runner on in every
inning, but he avoided allowing that one big hit that has hurt him in the past.
The bullpen took over for Gorski in the 6th and was nearly perfect,
allowing only two Fresno base runners over the final four innings. Las Vegas bats
finally broke out too, mashing two doubles and three homeruns on the night and
matching their season total in hits from the first two games. The 51s turn to
Tyler Pill to even the series in the finale Sunday evening at 5 PM. Pill made
one spot start for Las Vegas in 2014, but was passed on the depth chart by
Matthew Bowman, so ended up spending the whole season with Binghamton.
Offensive Highlights
The
51s got on the board in the 1st when Brandon Allen launched a 2R-HR
to RF – Campbell had drawn a two out walk before him.
Ceciliani
led off the 3rd with a solo blast, his first AAA homerun.
The
51s scored one run in the 4th, but threatened for more. Alex
Castellanos led the inning off with this double.
Travis
Taijeron would drive him in with this single up the middle. The 51s loaded the
bases with one out in the frame, but Fresno made a pitching change, and their
reliever Richard Rodriguez got the next two batters out.
Two
batters after Allen led off the 5th with a single, Castellanos
launched the third 51s homerun of the game to make it 6-2.
Kyle
Johnson used his legs to manufacture the 51s final run in the 8th,
and it was a beautiful thing to watch. After leading off with a walk, Johnson
stole 2B, went to 3B on a sac fly, and scored on a groundout with the infield
drawn in. That should’ve just been a leadoff walk gone to waste, but Johnson
made the most of his chance.
