            The 51s started their second half with a 3-2 win over the Iowa Cubs Thursday night thanks to some fine pitching and a pair of doubles off the bat of Eric Campbell. Starter Darin Gorski had his best effort since returning to the org, holding on to a shutout bid until there were two gone in the 6^th, and he helped himself at the plate by singling and scoring in the 5^th.

            The Las Vegas 51s started their road trip on a high note Thursday night in Tacoma, taking the opener of their series with the Rainier 7-3 thanks to some big flies. Two 51s recently demoted from the Mets made the biggest impact, as both Michael Conforto and Kevin Plawecki went deep with men on base for Las Vegas. Starter Darin Gorski was much more effective in his second start with the team, cruising through most of his 7 innings.

            After being signed out of Indy ball earlier this week, Darin Gorski made his return to the organization starting for the Las Vegas 51s Friday night. Gorski was hit around early and the 51s weren’t able to comeback in his season debut, but most of the Las Vegas pen did get to rest, which was a minor victory for Manager Wally Backman.

            Gorski found himself trailing 3-0 with just one out recorded in the 1^st after Kyle Jensen went deep for the 13^th time this season. He didn’t have good command early, but he got sharper later in the start. The Aces managed just a pair of singles against him after the 1^st inning, and he left in a 4-3 game.

            With the calendar turning to September, and the minor league season entering its final week of regular season play, the 1^st place Las Vegas 51s began a four game series with the 2^nd place El Paso Chihuahuas Monday night holding onto a tiny 1.5 game lead within the division. Unfortunately for Las Vegas, although they will still be able to field a formidable PCL lineup, the 51s lost a few regulars before the game Monday night, as Kevin Plawecki, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Eric Campbell, and Eric Young Jr. were on their way to Queens to join the New York Mets march towards the postseason. Neither starter would factor in the decision, although they both provided solid, if unspectacular, 5-inning performances in the game. It would come down to a game of bullpen management, which has not always been Wally’s best attribute, and the 51s pen would blow a 5-3 lead with just 3 outs to play.
