Recap:
Binghamton
got another great pitching performance from their starting rotation Sunday
afternoon, and this was the best yet. Luis Cessa faced the minimum over his 7
innings, slicing through the Akron lineup like a knife through warm butter, and
finishing with 8 strikeouts and only the one hit allowed – another start that
might’ve become a complete game shutout for the starter if it were mid-June and
they had no pitch counts. Cessa’s fastball was sitting 93-95 MPH throughout the
start, and he hit 96 MPH a few times per announcer Tim Heiman. For the third
straight game, these two teams were scoreless after 5, and for the third
straight game, the B-Mets broke through with a run in the 9th. This
time it was Brandon Nimmo providing the offense with a solo blast, his first
hit of the season. Beck Wheeler made his AA debut in relief of Cessa, and he
stayed on for a 2nd inning after the Mets added 3 runs in the 9th.
The B-Mets head to Erie Monday, where John Gant will make his first career AA
start at 6:35 PM with coverage on MiLB.tv.
The
B-Mets managed only one hit through the first 5 innings of Sunday’s game, this Jayce
Boyd single leading off the 2nd.
Nimmo
broke the scoreless tie and his season hitless streak when he launched this
blast with one out in the 6th.
Gilbert
Gomez picked up his first AA hit in the 8th, this double into the LF
corner.
Jared
King would bring him home with this double to RF.
The
B-Mets would add one more insurance run in the 8th when T.J. Rivera
came through with this big 2-out hit.
Dustin
Lawley and Josh Rodriguez got the 9th started with back-to-back
singles to put runners on the corners for Xorge Carrillo. Carrillo grounded
into a fielder’s choice, as Akron had the infield drawn in and came home to get
Lawley. However, Gavin Cecchini would pick up the slack and clear the bases
with this two-run triple.
Gomez
would follow with his second extra base hit in as many innings, this triple
into the left-center field gap.
