Recap:
The
B-Mets kept fighting back Saturday afternoon against Harrisburg, but this time
they couldn’t get the big hit to put them over the top, and the bullpen kept
giving up the lead. Starter Luis Cessa had a nice follow-up to his awesome
debut, but his fastball control wasn’t quite as sharp in this one, and he ended
up throwing 20+ pitches in multiple innings. Because of his high pitch count,
Cessa was lifted for Domingo Tapia after 4 innings in a tie game. Tapia came in
and quickly retired the first two batters of the inning, but then remember he
was supposed to be really wild, and gave up 4 walks on 22 pitches, before
allowing a bases clearing double that made it a 5-1 game. This B-Mets team
doesn’t give up though, and they’d battle right back for three in the bottom of
the 5th and another in the 6th to tie it. Vic Black came
in and pitched a scoreless inning, stranding a leadoff hit allowed. Chase
Huchingson would follow and pitch well in the 8th, but then struggle
in the 9th, giving up the lead for the final time – is he really a
2-inning relief pitcher? The B-Mets would threaten in the 9th, bringing
Jayce Boyd to the plate with the tying runs on and two outs, but he’d strike
out to end the game. John Gant gets his second start for Binghamton Sunday
afternoon at 1 PM, as the B-Mets wrap up their first home series of the year.
Jared
King had a nice day at the plate, starting the game with a single for the
B-Mets.
Albert
Cordero picked up his first two doubles of AA, one from each side of the plate.
He hit one from the left side in the 3rd.
T.J.
Rivera hit this one-out double in the 4th before leaving the game.
Jayce
Boyd would pinch-run for Rivera and score on this single from Josh Rodriguez,
who had himself a big day.
Paul
Sewald would bat for himself after bailing out Domingo Tapia in the 5th,
and ended up hitting the 2-out double to start a rally!
King
followed with his second single of the day, moving Sewald to 3B. Then Nimmo
singled up the middle to bring home Sewald, with King motoring over to 3B on
the play. And Jayce Boyd capped the rally with a two-run double that made the
score 5-4.
After
Josh Rodriguez led off the 6th with a single, Cordero hit his second
double of the day, this time from the right side, to tie the game up.
