Two B-Mets Leave Saturday’s Game Due to Injury

UPDATE: T.J. Rivera left with a tweaked hamstring and will be day-to-day for now, he's been placed on the AA DL.

UPDATE: Domingo Tapia has been placed on the AA DL with elbow discomfort. He is heading to Florida for an MRI.

UPDATE: Gavin Cecchini is also day-to-day with soreness in his groin.

            The Binghamton Mets lost a game for the first time at home in 2015 Saturday afternoon, and may have lost two players along the way. There was no initial indication to the severity of the injuries, nor confirmation that any injury occurred, but both 2B T.J. Rivera and RH RP Domingo Tapia left the game due to an apparent injury. The Senators may have lost a player to an injury as well, as closer Robert Benincasa left in discomfort after only 3 pitches in the 9^th.

            T.J. Rivera (26) has been arguably the hottest hitter in the Mets farm system thus far, having collected a hit in all but one game so far, for a slash of .441/.472/.529 in 36 PA, with 3 doubles. He lined a stand-up double into RF with one out in the 4^th, showing no apparent signs of an injury as he pulled up to the base. But he immediately called for the trainer and would leave the game, walking off the field of his own accord.

            Domingo Tapia has been a mess so far this season for Binghamton, allowing 8 BB’s in just 1.2 IP, with only 31 of 78 pitches going for strikes this season. He came in for Luis Cessa in the 5^th, as Cessa had thrown several long innings to total 84 pitches through 4 IP. Tapia jammed both of the first two batters he faced, resulting in a groundout and fly out, but then walked the next four, throwing 16 of 22 pitches out of the zone, before allowing a bases clearing double. While on the mound, Tapia had the pitching coach come visit once after he walked two, and catcher Albert Cordero came out multiple times to calm him down, as he looked frustrated walking around the mound a few times. Per the announcing crew, the B-Mets still hadn’t gotten anyone up in the pen when Tapia allowed the bases clearing double. After the double, Manager Pedro Lopez came out to get Tapia, but ended up talking with the umpire and Tapia on the mound, and then Tapia met with the Harrisburg trainer before walking off.

            There were no updates given to the announcing crew during the game, but I will keep an eye out for any news to come and update this post.
