Recapish
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies spent their Friday night playing catch-up after the
New Hampshire Fisher Cats ripped three extra base hits for four runs off Casey
Delgado in the 1st inning. Delgado settled down and gave Binghamton
5.2 strong innings of work after the 1st, but the early deficit
proved too much for the Ponies offense to overcome.
The
heart of the Fisher Cats lineup got to Delgado in the 1st. Richard
Urena sparked the rally with a well-struck double lined into LF, and then,
after a walk, Ryan McBroom made it 2-0 with a well-struck double over Champ’s
head in CF. Delgado nearly escaped the frame down just 2-0, but then Emilio
Guerrero launched a two-run blast to left center field that made it 4-0.
Thanks
to Champ Stuart, the Rumble Ponies had opportunities to start chipping away at
the score in the 1st and 3rd inning, but both times he
was stranded in scoring position. They did start chipping away at the score in
the 4th, but each of the first two times Binghamton scored, New
Hampshire came right back and scored a run in the top half of the next inning.
I break down Binghamton’s offense
further below, and there are a few defensive highlights too. This series
continues Saturday afternoon at 1:05 PM, with Mickey Jannis scheduled to start
for the Ponies as they look to get back above .500.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Champ
Stuart started his big night with a single and stolen base in the 1st,
but was stranded at 2B in the frame.
Champ
then doubled and stole third base in the 3rd, but he would again be
stranded.
Binghamton
finally broke through in the 4th, which started with a Kevin
Kaczmarski walk. Matt Oberste would single Kacz to 3B, and then Tomas Nido
doubled them both in three batters later.
Cody
Decker launched a solo blast in the 6th inning. Kevin Taylor
followed with a single but was erased on a double play.
Luis
Guillorme singled in his last AB of the night and then came around to score on
Champ’s first homer of the season.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Luis
Guillorme makes fielding this in-between hop look way too easy.
Casey Delgado picked off a runner at 1B.
Binghamton turned a 6-4-3 double play behind Delgado in the 6th inning.
Binghamton turned a 6-4-3 double play behind Delgado in the 6th inning.
David
Thompson made a nice bare-handed play in the 7th.
