Recapish
Making
his first appearance with the Las Vegas 51s of the 2017 season, Rafael Montero
tossed maybe his best PCL outing since 2014. Working with a limited pitch
count, Montero struck out 7 over 5 scoreless innings while allowing just a pair
of hits. The 51s jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind him, but the Las Vegas pen
slowly let the lead drip away. Amed Rosario knocked the game into extras with a
huge RBI triple in the 9th, but Sacramento took advantage of a Matt
Reynolds fielding error in the 10th to walk off with a win – it was
his second error of the game. Manager Pedro Lopez was tossed arguing a safe/out call in the 8th.
These two teams continue this series
Monday night at 10:05 PM, with Tyler Pill (0-0, 0.00 ERA) scheduled to make the
start for Las Vegas. Pill hasn’t allowed an earned run over his first three
starts of the year – the first two came with Binghamton.
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
The
51s got the scoring started in the 2nd inning when Dom Smith led off
with a single and eventually came around to score. Travis Taijeron got him to
3B with a ground-rule double, and Desmond Jennings got him home with a sac fly.
Matt
Reynolds and Amed Rosario hit a pair of two out singles in the 3rd
inning but were stranded.
Gavin
Cecchini sparked the 51s three run 5th inning with a leadoff single.
Smith came up three batters later with runners on the corners and brought them
both home when his single to RF was misplayed for an e9. Smith ended up on 3B
and was again brought home on a sac fly, this time by Travis Taijeron. Phillip
Evans added a double for his second hit in the frame, but was stranded at 3B.
Rosario’s
second hit of the game led to what was, at the time, a key insurance run in the
7th. Smith brought him home when his hit into CF was again
misplayed, though he would be thrown out at home on the play. Initially ruled
an e8 all the way, Smith was later credited with a triple for his third hit of
the game.
While
Rosario’s second hit was big, his final hit was big league. After Reynolds kept
the game alive with a two out single in the 9th, Rosario tripled him
home to tie ht game at 6!

Kevin McGowan
Erik
Goeddel left a mess (two on, one out) for McGowan and McGowan cleaned it up
while facing the 3-4 hitters of the Sacramento lineup. He’d strike out both
Ryder Jones and Michael Morse to escape the jam and keep the 51s lead intact.
