Recap

Sand Gnats starter Casey Delgado ran into a very hot and talented Greenville Drive lineup Sunday evening, and he couldn’t contain them enough for Savannah’s offense to pull ahead. The Drive would pounce on Delgado for three runs in the 1st inning thanks to a homerun and 3 singles, but then Delgado settled down and pitched much better the rest of the way. Unfortunately, Dedgar Jimenez was very sharp for Greenville over the first 4.1 innings, and Jamie Callahan was very sharp for Greenville over the last 4.1 innings. It was after that first out in the 5th inning that Savannah’s offense came to life for four runs on 5 hits to tie the game. But Greenville would connect for two doubles to jump back in front in the 6th inning, and neither side threatened much after that.
Check out the scoring details and game highlights (offense from both sides) below. This series and the SAL season wraps up Monday, with Chris Flexen (4-0, 1.45 ERA) scheduled to pitch for Savannah opposite Jalen Beeks (9-6, 4.35 ERA) at 2:05 PM.

Scoring Highlights

Michael Chavis got the scoring started for Greenville with a solo blast in the 1st inning. Rafael Devers, Andrew Benintendi, and Danny Mars followed with three straight singles for two more runs, which gave the Drive an early 3-0 lead.

Benintendi led off the 4th inning with a double for the Drive, and then Mars singled him home.

John Mora sparked the Sand Gnats big rally with a one out single in the 5th inning. After J.C. Rodriguez reached on a single of his own, a groundout from Tyler Moore moved them both into scoring position. Vicente Lupo followed with his second hit of the game to get Savannah on the board, and it was the first of three straight RBI hits for the Sand Gnats. Joe Tuschak followed with an RBI double to RF, and then Jonathan Johnson singled home two runs to tie the game at 4.

Benintendi and Guerra would both double to plate a run for Greenville in the 6th inning, giving the Drive the 5-4 lead they would win by. Yoan Moncada added a pair of singles in this game.

Defensive Highlights

Luis Guillorme handled a pair of groundouts easily enough early in the game, and then was the middleman of an inning ending double play in the 8th inning.
