Recap
Although
it won’t be their final game in 2015, the Binghamton Mets and Altoona Curve
played the final game of the regular season Monday afternoon, and it lasted
much longer than either team would’ve liked. The Curve jumped out to a big 5-0
lead early against Mickey Jannis and Kevin McGowan, but then the B-Mets bullpen
took control and held them to just 1 run over the final 10 innings. Meanwhile,
the Curve bullpen took over and walked the B-Mets right back into this game,
issuing 7 walks between the 3rd and 5th innings as the
B-Mets scored their first 6 runs. The B-Mets were outhit badly throughout the
game, with more runs than hits from when they tied the game until the 11th
inning. The Curve batters were swinging for the fences nearly every time up after
they took their early lead, which is probably why Brock Peterson was able to keep
them in check for 3 innings late in the game. Peterson became the first B-Mets
position player in franchise history to earn a win when Vince Belnome hit his
two run bomb in the bottom of the 12th.
With
the regular season over, the Pedro Lopez and the B-Mets turn their eyes towards
a repeat. Tyler Pill takes the hill in game one on Wednesday night, marking the
third straight playoff series he’ll start in game one for the B-Mets, and they
won the first two.
After
retiring the first two batters of the game, Mickey Jannis really struggled to
find the strike zone, which led to four walks around two singles and a pitching
change. Eric Wood and Andy Vasquez had the RBI singles for Altoona.
Austin
Meadows doubled home Adam Frazier in the 2nd inning after a leadoff
walk, and then Sebastian Valle and Erich Weiss followed with singles to get
Meadows home for a 5-0 lead.
After
striking out the first two B-Mets batters in the 3rd inning, Robert
Stock would walk the bases loaded for Victor Cruzado. Cruzado came through with
a two run double to RF, which made this a 5-2 game.
Wood
led off the 5th with a single to LF, and Frazier would drive him in
four batters later – his hit also knocked McGowan out of the game.
L.J.
Mazzilli led off the 5th inning with a single to CF, and then the
next two B-Mets batter drew walks to load the bases. The B-Mets would score
their next three runs on an E5, an RBI force out, and a wild pitch, and then
Albert Cordero singled home the game tying run with two outs.
After
dragging on far too long for the members of the press box, Vince Belnome
launched a two run homerun to RF with two outs in the 12th to give
the B-Mets a walkoff victory.

Defensive Highlights
The
B-Mets turned a nice double play to end the 9th inning, and Amed
Rosario had once groundball opportunity during the game.
Question of the Day! How is it that objects with "jets" have such tight diameters?
