Recap
The
Binghamton Mets couldn’t get anything going at the plate against Curve starter
Zack Dodson Saturday night, but they woke up against Altoona’s bullpen, scoring
all three of their runs in the 8th inning for a comeback victory.
B-Mets starter Rainy Lara was very sharp in this game, retiring the first 12
Curve batters before he ran into some trouble in the 5th and 6th
innings. Austin Meadows and Barrett Barnes hit back-to-back extra base hits
against Lara in the 5th (see below for those 2 hits + all of the Binghamton
offense), and the Max Moroff and Jose Osuna did the same in the 6th inning.
Rehabbing Lucas Duda picked up a single one-hopped into CF in each of his first
two at bats, but then struck out in his 3rd AB. Duda would leave
after 7 innings as planned, and is expected to play about 7 innings Sunday
night before a full game on Monday. Xorge Carrillo sparked the B-Mets 8th
inning rally, while L.J. Mazzilli and Vince Belnome provided the RBI doubles in
the frame. Paul Sewald would take over for Lara in the 9th inning
and work a perfect frame, striking out Barnes along the way.
Check out the full scoring details and highlights below. This
series continues Sunday night at 6:35 PM, with Gabriel Ynoa (9-8, 3.94 ERA)
scheduled to pitch opposite Jason Creasy (11-8, 4.53 ERA).
Lucas
Duda started the game 2-2, and had half of the B-Mets hits when he left after 7
innings.
Austin
Meadows tripled and Barrett Barnes doubled him home in the 5th to
give Altoona a 1-0 lead.
Max
Moroff and Jose Osuna hit back-to-back doubles for the Curve in the 6th,
which doubled their lead to 2-0.
Jeff
McNeil picked up his first AA hit in the bottom of the 6th, but he’d
be thrown out at 2B as part of a strike ‘em out, throw ‘em out doule play.
Xorge
Carrillo sparked the B-Mets comeback rally with a leadoff single to RF in the 8th
inning. Victor Cruzado would replace him on the base paths after he beat out a
potential double play grounder. Jared King would advance Cruzado to 2B on a
single to RF, and then L.J. Mazzilli doubled them both home to tie the game at
2. Vince Belnome would complete the comeback with an RBI double to LF to bring
home Mazzilli.
Defensive Highlights
Lucas
Duda handled this grounder cleanly in the 3rd inning.
