Recap
With
Altoona clinching the second spot in the West division Sunday evening, all four
2015 Eastern League playoffs spots have been decided, and the B-Mets were
involved in three of playoff clinching games within the past week (and Reading
clinched the division title against them in another game). While the B-Mets
haven’t had much luck in clinchers this past week, they did cement their spot
in the postseason during their trip in Reading, and it’s the playoff series
clinching games that they are most concerned with now. B-Mets starter Gabriel
Ynoa allowed a leadoff homerun just fair inside the RF foul pole, but then
setlled down to have a nice outing. He was throwing more offspeed and breaking
stuff than normal, and it led to 6 strikeouts, which is the most he’s had since
7/27, tied for the second most he’s had all season – he’s struck out 6 people
three times now, and has a season high of 8 on 5/1. Altoona’s starter Jason
Creasy did a great job of limiting hard contact over his 6 innings, and he
hadn’t allowed a hit until there were two outs in the 5th inning.
L.J. Mazzilli made the best contact against Creasy for a double to the wall
leading off the 6th, and then Lucas Duda singled Mazzilli home to
get the B-Mets on the board, but they couldn’t put together any other threats.
Mets 1B Lucas Duda finished his
rehab for the B-Mets Sunday night, deciding to play all 9 innings against
Altoona, and declaring himself ready to face Washington Monday night (that is
really great news!). The Mets promoted Amed Rosario from St. Lucie to give the
B-Mets a proper SS for their playoff run since Gavin Cecchini has been shutdown
for the season, T.J. Rivera does not have the arm or range to be more than an
emergency SS, and the Mets seem reluctant to give Jeff McNeil more looks there.
Rosario should benefit from moving to a more offensively neutral environment,
but he’s still playing in AA as a teenager after averageish production in the
FSL (he had a 97 wRC+ over 417 PA). On the topic of prospects recently promoted
from St. Lucie, Victor Cruzado and Jared King should be the everyday corner
outfielders for Binghamton in the playoffs, and Cruzado might be the better
option for RF. The B-Mets have tried Brock Peterson, Jonathan Galvez and others
in LF over the past few weeks, and they have really hurt their pitchers with
bad reads and misplayed fly balls.
Curve centerfielder Austin Meadows
had a pair of extra base hits, including his third triple in this series, and
made a nice sliding play in CF (see below for all three). The 20-year old is coming
off a great season for Bradenton (134 wRC+ in 556 PA), and he has hit the
ground running in his first week of AA action. B-Mets reliever Akeel Morris
struck out 3 batters for his fourth consecutive appearance.
Check out the full scoring details
and highlights from this game below, including all Duda and Rosario action.
This series and the AA season wraps up Monday afternoon at 1:05 PM, with Mickey
Jannis scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets opposite Tom Harlan.
Adam
Frazier led off the game with a homerun for Altoona.
Austin
Meadows picked up his third triple of the series leading off the 4th
inning, and then Barrett Barnes doubled him home to double the Curve’s lead.
Meadows added a double later in the game.
Amed
Rosario picked up his first AA hit in the 5th inning.
L.J.
Mazzilli doubled for Binghamton leading off the 6th inning, and then
Lucas Duda knocked him in with his third single to CF of his rehab.
Josh Smoker issued a pair of two
out walks in the 7th inning, and then Max Moroff double the Curve’s
score with a two run double to LF – Galvez did not do a great job tracking the
ball down in the gap.
Defensive Highlights
All
of Amed Rosario’s chances at SS from his AA debut.
Lucas
Duda handled the only grounder hit his way cleanly, and he nearly tagged out a runner at 1B after a great throw from Albert Cordero.
Josh
Smoker made a diving stop for the 2nd out in the 7th
inning.
Austin
Meadows made a nice sliding play in CF to rob Lucas Duda of a hit.
