Recap
The
51s offense finally came out of hibernation Thursday night as Las Vegas built a
big lead early, but then Vic Black’s first PCL rehab appearance went horribly
wrong, and Memphis came back from a 6 run deficit to win. Las Vegas starter
Darin Gorski had a typical Gorski outing, with his mistakes leading to extra
base hits in 3 of the 4 innings he allowed a run. He left with a 4-run lead
that would not last very long, as Black could only retire 1 of 5 batters he
faced, and then Chase Bradford allowed the tying runs to score. Bradford stayed
on for the 8th and quickly found himself in trouble thanks to an E5.
Scott Rice would come in with one out 3 batters later, but he just allowed an
RBI single to a lefty. Jon Velasquez would replace Rice and retire the final
two of the frame, but the first batter hit a fly ball to CF that was deep
enough for a sac fly.
The
series wraps up Friday at 8:05 PM, with Steven Matz looking to end a 9-game
losing streak, and the 51s look to avoid a winless road trip.
The
first 6 batters reached and scored for Las Vegas in the 3rd, all
against starter Nick Greenwood: Darin Gorski doubled, Cory Vaughn singled,
Daniel Muno walked, Matt Reynolds singled back up the middle, Johnny Monell
reached on an infield single to the SS, and Brooks Conrad capped it with a
grand slam.
After
Gorski led off the 4th with a walk , the 51s combined for 2 runs on
3 singles to take an 8-2 lead: Vaughn singled, Reynolds singled Muno home after
a fielder’s choice that led Gorski’s run, and Monell added another single.
