Recap
The
B-Mets were blown out in the finale Sunday afternoon, as the Fightins clinched
a series win with ‘two touchdowns’. Binghamton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
1st, but their defense failed Lugo in the 2nd, allowing
the Fightins to jump ahead 4-1. The rally actually got started when the umpires
mistakenly awarded Brodie Green a HBP on a pitch he fouled off – the ball ran
in and Green protected himself with an excuse me swing, and then started acting
like he was hit after he was awarded 1B. Things were made worse when Brock
Peterson committed two fielding errors within 3 plays, and then a fourth run
scored when J.P. Crawford doubled on a fly ball that deflected in-and-out of
Pina’s glove in RF. Reading pulled away against Lugo with two outs in the 6th,
as 5 straights Fightins reached for 5 more runs. The B-Mets defense failed Lugo
again in the 3rd, as the inning should’ve ended with no runs allowed
when Rene Garcia popped out to shallow LF, but both Cecchini and Conforto lost
the ball in the sun, and it dropped in for a double. The triple came on a fly
ball that landed just out of the reach of a diving Pina in right center field,
and then rolled to the wall – Quinn had a chance to touch them all with his
speed. Aside from Conforto’s first homerun in AA, the B-Mets offense was pretty
much shut down the rest of the way, and then Reading added on with 4 against
Kolarek in the 8th and another run against Sewald in the 9th.
Kolarek’s magical run appears to have ended, as the league appears to have
adjusted to his new arm slot.
The
B-Mets have a much needed off day Monday, but then head to Bowie for 3, which is
one of the few Binghamton series that won’t be covered by MiLB.tv this year.
Scoring Highlights
Michael
Conforto doubled Gavin Cecchini (walk) to 3B in the 1st, and then a
Brock Peterson sac fly gave the B-Mets a 1-0 lead.
Mazzilli
led of the 2nd with a double and scored after consecutive infield singles. Cecchini would single home Albert Cordero for the third run of the
inning.
Conforto
hit a solo blast in the 5th.
