Recap
The
B-Mets wasted a brilliant start from Luis Cessa Thursday night as the Thunder
completed the 3-game sweep behind an even better performance from Trenton
starter Caleb Smith. Cessa would allow a leadoff homerun to catcher Gary
Sanchez in the 2nd, and that was all of the scoring in this game
until the top of the 9th. Michael Conforto kept on chugging in AA,
but nobody else in the lineup contributed a hit, with two other base runners
coming via the walk and one reaching on an error.
Cessa
was exceptional, sitting the mid-90’s (93-96) with his fastball, and mixing in
a nice mid-80’s slider and low-80’s change for 8 strikeouts and 11 swinging
strikes. He retired 15 in a row until allowing a walk with two outs in the 7th
– the runner would be erased on a caught stealing anyway. He has now allowed
just 1 run over his last two starts, with 13 K: 1 BB and 7 hits allowed across
13.1 IP. This is a great sign, as his K-rate had been slipping since 8 in his
first start of the year, but otherwise he’s been very strong for Binghamton.
The
B-Mets welcome Reading into town Friday night, and will be looking to get back
to .500 starting at 6:35 PM.
Scoring?
What Scoring? Michael Conforto did pick up two hits though. With two outs in
the 1st, Conforto doubled into left center field. With two outs in
the 9th, Conforto line a single into LF. Brutal
