Recent Injuries/Transactions
The
B-Mets added top-30 prospects Michael Conforto and Robert Gsellman to their
roster over the weekend at the expense of Jayce Boyd (off to Las Vegas) and
John Gant (off to St. Lucie). Yeixon Ruiz was also added as a super utility
guy.
Storylines
Michael
Conforto is the storyline in Binghamton right now, and he will probably
continue to be so until he reaches Las Vegas. The Mets have some solid position
player prospects in their system, but Conforto’s bat is considered to be better
than anything the Mets have had coming up for awhile, so there’s reason to be
excited. Gavin Cecchini has been one of the best hitters in the EL while playing
solid defense at SS, so the B-Mets have two of the top prospects in the system,
and Brandon Nimmo should join the party in a few weeks.
It’s
the AA’s version of the subway series (aka, the interstate series?), and the
Mets-Yankees rivalry can even increase the intensity of minor league games, as
there tends to be packed houses and a buzz in the stands. With the way Gabriel
Ynoa is pitching in 2015, you could argue the Mets are sending the least
interesting part of their rotation out there for the first two games.
