Recap
The
B-Mets would come from behind to tie this game up on 3 occasions Tuesday night,
but in the end, the B-Mets bullpen couldn’t get the key outs, allowing the
Thunder to walk away winners in the opener. Starter Rainy Lara allowed a run on
3 straight singles in the 1st, but managed to strand runners on 2B
and 3B to keep things from getting out of hand early. The B-Mets tied it in the
3rd (see scoring details below), but Lara would give the lead right
back, allowing a triple to Dante Bichette that led to a run. Again they tied it
in the 5th, and again the Thunder jumped right back on top in the next
frame. With two on and two outs in the 6th, Rainy Lara was at his
pitch limit (if not beyond it), which forced manager Pedro Lopez to bring in
Chase Huchingson, who has struggled most of the year. Chase would allow both
runners to score before getting a groundout to end the frame. But again, the
B-Mets scratched out a run in the 6th and 7th inning to
tie the game, and again the pitching staff gave it right back in the 8th.
Before a wild Kolarek gave up a pair in the 8th, Vic Black worked a
perfect 7th, finishing the frame with a strikeout. Three walks and a
wild pitch were too much for Kolarek to work around in the 8th, and
the Thunder had finally built a lead that would last. The B-Mets had two more
hits left in their lineup, both coming in the 8th, but the threat
would end with Cecchini and Conforto due up.
Check
out the scoring highlights and more on Black below. For some post-game quotes
from Conforto and Lopez, check out Lynn Worthy’s recap here.
The series continues Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Gabriel Ynoa scheduled to
pitch for Binghamton. The B-Mets need a win to stay above .500.
Gavin
Cecchini had a very nice night, reaching base 4 times, with a double among his
3 hits. His night got started in the 1st, when he singled with one
out.
Yeixon
Ruiz led off the 3rd with a single and then came home to score on an
RBI single from Michael Conforto.
Ruiz
and Cecchini got the 5th inning started with consecutive singles,
but the B-Mets 3-4 hitters both hit double play grounders, with Trenton
successfully turning the grounder from Josh Rodriguez.
Aderlin
Rodriguez lined a single into LF with one out in the 6th, and then scored
on a two out single from Jared King.
Nice job in LF to prevent the double |
Cecchini
and Conforto hit back-to-back doubles for a run in the 7th, which is
something they could realistically do for the big league Mets some day.
Aderlin
and King joined the multi-hit parade in the 8th.
