            Check out yesterday’s results here.

Lynn Worth talks about the BMets Jayce Boyd – apparently he’s down one rib after a surgery last year.

Toby Hyde had an excellent piece on Eudor Garcia, the Mets 4th round pick in the June draft.

The NYPenn league All-Stars have been announced and the Cyclones are sending six players to the August 19th exhibition game: Amed Rosario, Marcos Molina, Jhoan Urena, Shane Bay and Michael Conforto.

Mets Series in Review: @Nationals

Dates: August 5-7, 2014
Results: Lose 2/3
 W 6-1, L 7-1, L 5-3 F/13
Current Record: 54-61, 9 GB in the NL East, 8 GB in the NL Wild Card

Recaps:

MVMet: Daniel Murphy has been the Mets offense the past few weeks and their most consistent hitter all season. I love watching Murph with the Mets, so I’m happy he’s still around, but I’m surprised there appeared to be little interest in him at the trade deadline.
LVMet: Jon Niese has not been as sharp since he returned from the DL, with a 5.76 ERA in 25 IP over 4 starts. After a rough first inning Wednesday, he kept things close until the 6th, when Danny Espinosa connected for a three-run bomb. The offense never showed up Wednesday night, but it didn’t help that they were climbing uphill from the start.

Miguel Socolovich (3.65 ERA) – 0.2 IP, H, 2 SO, 2 IR – 1 S

Batters

Matt ∂en Dekker – 2-3, 2 2B (31), BB, SO
Matt Reynolds – 2-4
Kevin Plawecki – 1-4, R, 2B (5)
Cesar Puello – 2-3, R, 2B (14), RBI (30), BB

Recap:

Noah Syndergaard could not control his secondary stuff Thursday night and the 51s offense was shutdown by Isotopes starter Jeff Bennett as Albuquerque took game 1 of a 5-game set. Offensively, the 51s have been getting plenty of offense from M∂D, Matt Reynolds and Cesar Puello lately, and all three contributed two hits Thursday. They had a number of chances to score but could not get the key big hits. Erik Goeddel came in for two innings of relief of Thor and was generally impressing the 51s radio booth of Russ Langer and Jerry Reuss, although the results were not great. Zack Thornton looked very strong and needed only 8 pitches to get through the 8th. Jack Leathersich came in and ran into trouble, retiring only 1 out of 3 batters he’d face before Miguel Socolovich took over with two runners on. Socolovich would allow a runner to score before finishing the inning, ballooning Leathersich’s ERA to 27.00 with AAA this year.

2014 Mets Minors Players of the Week

July 21 – August 4, 2014

Keeping track of the hottest minor leaguers in the Mets farm system: special two-week Tuesday edition to make up for missed time, rookie leagues included!

Hitter of the Weeks: There were some very strong performances throughout the minors, but Matt ∂en Dekker continued to outhit everyone. Granderson – M∂D – Lagares in the outfield?
Starting Pitcher of the Weeks: As obvious a choice as Noah Syndergaard is, John Gant and Robert Gsellman were equally dominant for Savannah. Thor gets the nod for dominating the tougher league, but the starting pitching in Savannah has been great this year.
Relief Pitcher of the Weeks: There were many strong options to pick from, but I’m giving the nod to Savannah’s Akeel Morris, who had a miniscule .133 OPS allowed during the stretch.
Team of the Weeks: This one was easy, as the Cyclones were the only team to distinguish themselves lately. They really seemed to get a boost from the addition of top-draft pick Michael Conforto, but that pitching was top notch during this stretch.

BMets beat reporter Lynn Worthy (@PSBLynn) previewed the Richmond Flying Squirrels, who host the Mets over the next three days – all games starting at 7:05 PM ET.

Matt Reynolds was named the PCL Player of the Week for the week ending August 3.

Maikis De La Cruz got some love for his big night Monday.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle discussed how the Cyclones are ‘slip-sliding out of contention.’

ICYMI while I was at the beach, there were a number of roster moves (From the 51s, BMets and Cyclones game notes): Jeremy Hefner was officially moved off of rehab and onto the St. Lucie roster. John Lannan was promoted to AAA, pushing Matthew Bowman back to AA – Bowman has had three strong starts in AAA (one rain shortened), but the Las Vegas 51s haven’t had a consistent rotation spot open for him. Kevin Plawecki came off the AAA DL and Juan Centeno was moved to AA three days later. Hansel Robles came off the AA DL the same day Ryan Fraser went on it for a right ankle contusion (Fraser came off today). Wilfredo Tovar was activated from the DL and is back starting with AA. Brandon Allen went on and off the AAA DL, and Carlos Alvarado is currently on the AAA DL. Darrell Ceciliani was suspended for a game. Kai Gronauer and Rylan Sandoval were placed on the AA DL with contusions on their right legs. Jack Leathersich was promoted to AAA. Luis Arrizurieta was moved from Brooklyn to Kingsport – catcher was a crowded spot in Brooklyn. Octavio Acosta was promoted from Brooklyn to Savannah (2.80 ERA over 45 IP with Brooklyn – 33 H, 36 SO: 11 BB, 2 HR, 5 HBP). John Mora was promoted from the GCL Mets to Brooklyn – the 21-year old started the year with a 17-game hit streak and hit safely in 21 of the first 24 games (.376/.480/.518 with 9 XBH, 10 SO: 14 BB in 102 PA), but had been struggling to find hits over the 8 games prior to his promotion (just 3-25). Martires Arias was promoted from Kingsport to Brooklyn. Dario Alvarez was promoted from Savannah to St. Lucie. Sandoval was later granted his release.

The Cyclones webpage did a ‘Getting to Know: Michael Conforto’ piece worth reading, if you haven’t read enough of Conforto yet ;).

Mets Series in Review: vs. Giants

Dates: August 1-4, 2014
Results: Lose 3/4
 L 5-1, W 4-2, L 9-0, L 4-3
Current Record: 53-59, 8.5 GB in East, 7 GB in Wild Card

Recaps:

Monday – Mets.com, ESPN NY

MVMet: Jacob ∂eGrom bested Peavy and the Giants in one of the best-pitched games of the year, for the first seven innings at least. He’s been an amazing surprise this year, and he’s pitched his way into the NL ROY discussions.
LVMet: The Mets offense managed just 17 hits over the four game series, and nine of those came in Monday afternoon’s loss - not good enough.
