Recapish
The
Binghamton Mets came out on the wrong end of a pitcher’s duel Thursday
afternoon, losing 2-1 to Portland on getaway day to snap a 14-game winning
streak at Hadlock Field. Rainy Lara had cruised through the first 6 innings, so
manager Pedro Lopez didn’t hesitate to send him out for the 7th
after the B-Mets handed him a lead. Lara would give that lead back without
recording an out, and Akeel Morris couldn’t keep the go-ahead run from coming
home in the frame.
The
B-Mets offense couldn’t get anything going against Portland’s starter Aaron
Wilkerson Thursday afternoon. Wilkerson K’d the first 4 batters he faced and
never slowed down after that. The B-Mets didn’t get their first baserunner
until Niuman Romero walked in the 4th, and they just couldn’t string
anything together all night. They had a chance to tie the game in the 8th
inning, but Maikis De La Cruz was thrown out trying to steal 2B right before the
walk and double that would’ve brought him around to score.
I
break down the scoring details with highlights below, so enjoy! The Binghamton
Mets left for home after the loss with Akron coming into town for the weekend. The
series starts Friday at 7:05 PM, with Mickey Jannis scheduled to pitch for
Binghamton.
Scoring Highlights
Victor
Cruzado and L.J. Mazzilli singled in the 7th, and then Cruzado came
home on a wild pitch to score the games first run.
Dominic
Smith and Maikis De La Cruz added singles in the game, and Kyle Johnson doubled
two batters after Maikis was thrown out trying to steal 2B.
