Recapish

The Binghamton Mets fell right back to 9 games under .500 with a 6-3 loss to the Trenton Thunder Saturday night. Mickey Jannis had decent command of his stuff, which helped him dominate 7 of the 9 Thunder batters, but the other two teed off against him. Lefty Jordan Montgomery issued 3 walks and would be knocked out before finishing 6 innings, but he allowed very little hard contact, and the Thunder pen followed his lead. Rehabbing Wilmer Flores went 1-2 with a sac fly while playing second base for 7 innings.
B-Mets starter Mickey Jannis had good control after the 1st inning, but the Thunder got to him for a pair of runs in that frame. Tyler Wade and Lane Adams started their abuse of Jannis in the 1st with a single and double. Those two were the only to pick up hits against Jannis on the night, and they combined for a pair of doubles and a pair of triples.

Recapish

The Binghamton Mets finally started to score some runs again Friday night against the ‘rival’ Trenton Thunder, although their output was limited to just the one big inning. The 6 runs scored in the 4th equaled their total from the past 5 games combined, and they hadn’t reached that total in a game since their 8-7 loss last Friday.
Starter Casey Delgado dealt with some command problems over the first two innings, as he issued a pair of walks, hit a batter, and uncorked a wild pitch. Cito Culver made him pay for the command problems in the 2nd inning when Culver singled home two on a grounder through the left side. Delgado would limit the damage to two runs in the frame, striking out Dustin Fowler to strand a pair of runners in scoring position. He then went to work against the Thunder, retiring 13 of the next 15 batters before Luis Mateo took over in the 7th.

Recapish

The Binghamton Mets icy slide continued Thursday morning against Richmond, as they managed only one run in support of a strong start from their ace Robert Gsellman. The teams took a scoreless tie into the 7th, when Gsellman blinked first and allowed 3 runs on 3 consecutive RBI doubles. In big league Mets news, Wilmer Flores had another 0-fer at the plate in his rehab.
Gsellman only had a pair of clean frames – the 5th and 6th inning – and he never set down more than 7 in a row, but he basically just cruised through the first 6 innings. He entered the 7th with just 68 pitches thrown and it wasn’t out of the question that he could go the distance at that point. Unfortunately, Gsellman allowed 3 runs on 4 straight hits with one out in the frame, as the Squirrels finally got to him for some hard contact.

Recapish

The Binghamton Mets slide continued in painful fashion Wednesday night, as they were again blown out by a team that came into this series 18 games under .500. The bats showed some signs of life again, but they did nothing once they got runners into scoring position. Rehabbing Wilmer Flores went 0-5 from the leadoff spot while playing 1B for all 9 innings.
Rainy Lara had a dominant 1st inning but then struggled over his final 3 frames. Not a good sign that his manager didn’t have the confidence to send him out for a 5th inning with only 64 pitches, and I wonder if the move to the pen is coming soon.
A fielding error by Mazzilli opened the door for a 2nd inning Richmond run, which was knocked in by Randy Moreno. Austin Slater took Lara deep to make it 3-0 in the 3rd, and that was all the Squirrels would need.
