            The Columbia Fireflies dropped a second straight game to Asheville Wednesday night, taking a 4-1 loss to the Tourists in their second to last home game of 2017. Cola starter Justin Brantley rebounded from a weird outing to give the Fireflies seven strong innings and he matched a career-high with nine strikeouts. Unfortunately for Brantley, the Cola offense was a no-show, so he was stuck with the tough-luck loss.

            The Columbia Fireflies set a Spirit Communications Park record with a paid attendance of 9,629 Monday afternoon, and while many were there just to see the eclipse, the Fireflies fed off their energy for an exciting 6-5 win. The scheduled eclipse break came during the middle of the 4^th inning, so Rome was only able to get three innings out of their starter the day after a 16-inning game. Most of the excitement in the game happened before the eclipse, but these two teams saved the best for last, as both rallied in the 9^th, and the Fireflies walked off with a win.

            Gabriel Llanes returned to the Fireflies rotation for game one of a double-header Friday night in Columbia, but the outing got away from him in the 3^rd and the Rome Braves didn’t let up after that. Columbia jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1^st but Rome scored the next eight runs unanswered. Keaton Aldridge took over for Llanes in relief and also had an unfortunate outing, allowing more than one run for just the third time this year. The Cola bats showed some life early but finished the game on a 0-10 streak.
