Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies got a top-notch performance from big Chris Viall Monday night in Greenville as they cruised to a 7-1 win in the opener of their series with the Drive. Viall set a career-high with 11 strikeouts over five innings of work and barely let the Drive hit the ball out of the infield. He randomly experienced some control problems in the 4^th as the Drive tried to put together a rally, but then Viall buckled down and struck out five of six batters to end his night on a high note. Edgardo Fermin led the Fireflies offensively, finishing with three hits, three runs scored, a double, a stolen base, and his second walk of the season. Although Fermin had the biggest night, everyone in the Fireflies lineup reached base at least once, and the team as a whole walked more times (8) than they struck out (7).

Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies dropped their second straight Sunday afternoon at home, and for the second straight game it was the bullpen struggles that really did Cola in. Former 1^st round pick Anthony Kay made his long-awaited pro debut for the Fireflies in this one, and while he was overall pretty effective, poor pitch efficiency limited him to just four innings pitched. Still, Kay left with a 5-2 lead and the Fireflies appeared to be in good shape to clinch a series win in this four-game set with Augusta. However, Cola relievers Stephen Villines and Darwin Ramos were smacked around for seven runs between the 6^th and 7^th innings, which put the Green Jackets in position to earn a series split.
