            The Las Vegas 51s won their first extra inning contest of 2018 9-6 Monday afternoon in El Paso, forcing a split in their four game series with the Chihuahuas. The 51s kept jumping ahead in this one only to see the Chihuahuas battle right back to tie it, which made for an exciting extra inning game. Both teams were playing in their first extra inning affair of 2018, which meant both teams were experiencing the new pace of play rules for extra inning games for the first time (the new rule puts a runner on second to start every extra inning). The rule had no impact for either side in the 10^th inning, but both sides took advantage of that automatic base runner for a run in the 11^th. The 51s were able to rally beyond just that base runner in the 11^th, jumping ahead 9-5 thanks to some big hits from Phillip Evans and Luis Guillorme, and then Jamie Callahan sealed the deal with a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame.

            The Iowa Cubs beat Sean Gilmartin and the Las Vegas 51s Friday night to even the four game series between the two clubs at one game each.

            The 51s jumped ahead with a run in the 1^st thanks to a sac fly, but left Michael Conforto at third base in the frame. After being handed a 1-0 lead, Sean Gilmartin came out and walked the first two batters in the bottom of the 1^st inning, and both runners eventually came around to score for Iowa.

            The Las Vegas 51s took a 9-2 beating for their second straight loss in Tacoma Saturday night. The offense showed signs of life early, but went missing after Ty Kelly picked up his second hit of the game in the 5^th. In total, the final 13 Las Vegas batters were set down in a row, and the game raced to a finish as a result.

            The 51s were actually up 1-0 early, though maybe the way they scored that run should’ve been an omen of things to come. With runners on the corners and nobody out, Michael Conforto grounded into a double play to bring home Ty Kelly. After the first two batters of the game picked up hits, Las Vegas finished just 3-28 with one walk and no more extra base hits.

            The Las Vegas 51s started their road trip on a high note Thursday night in Tacoma, taking the opener of their series with the Rainier 7-3 thanks to some big flies. Two 51s recently demoted from the Mets made the biggest impact, as both Michael Conforto and Kevin Plawecki went deep with men on base for Las Vegas. Starter Darin Gorski was much more effective in his second start with the team, cruising through most of his 7 innings.
