Recap
The
B-Mets started their first of 3 double-headers in a week with a victory over
the Richmond Flying Squirrels in game one Wednesday night. The B-Mets exploded
for 6 runs in the 2nd inning, with T.J. Rivera and Joe Benson
providing the big two out hits to knock home 5 of those runs. Robert Gsellman had
another strong start, but Devin Harris tagged him for a 3-run homerun in the 4th
inning to cut the B-Mets lead in half, so his final line is not as pretty. It was
the first homerun Gsellman had allowed since 7/6, and he’d also allow a double
to Ricky Oropesa in the 2nd, which led to the Squirrels first run.
Erik Goeddel was the first pitcher to relieve Gsellman, and he worked around a
leadoff double in the 6th for a scoreless inning. He maxed out at 94
MPH with his fastball in this appearance, and ended the frame with a strikeout.
Paul Sewald closed the game out with a scoreless 7th, striking out pinch-hitter
Juan Ciriaco to end game 1.
The
double-header continued with Rainy Lara scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets in
game 2. Check out highlights from game 1 below, and check back for highlights
from game 2 shortly.
Gavin
Cecchini led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a double to RF,
went to 3B on a line drive single to RF off the bat of T.J. Rivera, and then
came home when Joe Benson hit a double play grounder to the Richmond SS.
Ricky
Oropesa hit a one out double for the Squirrels in the 2nd inning,
went to 3B on an infield single off the bat of Devin Harris, and then scored on
a sac fly.
The
B-Mets erupted for 6 runs in the 2nd inning, and Vince Belnome got
the frame started with a seeing eye single to LF. He’d score on an RBI double
from L.J. Mazzilli two batters later, but then the next two B-Mets batters
would be retired. A walk to Cecchini would load the bases with two outs, and
then Binghamton exploded for 5 runs over the next two batters. T.J. Rivera
lined a bases clearing double that landed just fair down the RF line, and then
Joe Benson launched a 2-run blast to LF that deflected off of a moving train.
Brock
Peterson and L.J. Mazzilli added well-struck doubles for the B-Mets in the
game.
In
the 4th, Richmond got 3 runs back on one swing from Devin Harris.
Defense Highlights
Gavin
Cecchini did a nice job charging this slow roller to his right in the 2nd
inning, and made a great turn on this double play in the 7th.
