Recap
The
Las Vegas 51s brought out the big bats as they rolled into Salt Lake Wednesday
night, taking a big lead early and never looking back. The lead surely helped
Seth Lugo relax in his first AAA start, and he was in control over the first
four innings against the Bees, allowing only an unearned run in the 1st,
but then lost control in the 5th. Lugo was able to limit the damage
done by Salt Lake in that 5th inning to just 2 runs, and Las Vegas
quickly got those runs back and more. Everybody got in on the offensive attack
except Anthony Recker, with Zach Lutz picking up his first homerun of the
season, and Brandon Nimmo adding his first AAA homerun an inning later. Cody
Satterwhite was the first to replace Lugo, and he’d strikeout 5 of 7 batters
faced over 2 innings before giving way to Chase Huchingson. Huch and John
Church kept the Bees off the scoreboard for the final two frames to hold on for
a 9-3 victory, the third straight for Las Vegas.
This
series continues Thursday night at 9:05 PM, with Tim Stauffer (1-0, 5.06 ERA)
scheduled to pitch for Las Vegas.
The
51s scored a run before the Bees could record an out after Dilson Herrera,
Wilfredo Tovar, and Matt Reynolds hit consecutive singles in the 1st.
After Zach Lutz walked to load the bases, Brandon Allen singled home Tovar.
Brooks Conrad would add a two run single with two outs to give Las Vegas a 4-0
lead before the Bees could bat.
Conrad
led off the 4th inning with a walk, and then came around to score on
a single from Tovar –Reynolds followed with his second single of the day.
Lutz
led off the 5th with a solo blast to right center field.
Brandon
Nimmo led off the 6th with a solo blast to RF. Tovar and Lutz added
doubles in the frame for another run.
To cap the scoring,
Las Vegas would connect for a run on four singles in the 7th: Travis
Taijeron led off the frame, Nimmo moved him to 2B, and then Tovar singled him
home. Reynolds would follow with an infield single to load the bases with two
outs (not shown), but Anthony Recker went down swinging to end the threat. I included Nimmo's 9th inning single at the bottom.
Bonus Defense
Nice
double play turned in the 2nd inning. Brandon Nimmo's error from the 1st inning.
