Recap

The 51s got an early injection of offense from Matt Reynolds Wendesday night, but then went back into hibernation for the rest of the game, as their losing streak extended to 8-straight. The 3-run homerun from Reynolds matched the scoring output from the 51s offense over the first 5 games of this road trip, which is hard to believe, both from this offense, and in this league. 51s starter Logan Verrett was shaky, throwing only 58% strikes, and allowing 6 hits during his 3.2 IP. He got some nice defensive help from T.J. Rivera behind him, but he was inefficient, and had not been stretch out for this start. Scott Rice was the first to relieve Verrett, allowing an inherited runner to score with a single allowed to the first lefty he saw. Rice would stay out for the 5th, which makes no sense considering how Wally has used him this year, and he’d allow a walk and a homerun to lefties in the frame. John Church and Zack Thornton took over and finished with 3 nearly perfect innings, but the damage was done, and the 51s only managed two base runners the rest of the game.
The series continues Thursday at 8:05 PM, and the 51s are scheduled to send Darin Gorski out there with the responsibility of ending this losing streak.

Recap

B-Mets starter Gabriel Ynoa had another underwhelming performance Wednesday night, but he was good enough to leave Binghamton in a position to even the series against Trenton. Unfortunately for those fans looking for a win over the rival Thunder (aka, the Yankees affiliate), Bobby Parnell’s disastrous rehab tour was scheduled to continue in the 1-run game, and the results were all too familiar for the former Mets closer. While Parnell didn’t have his best stuff again (low 90’s heat, 52% strikes), he might’ve had a scoreless inning with a little help from his defense. Gilbert Gomez got a bad break on a low liner hit directly at him, and then couldn’t recover in time to make the diving catch, trapping the ball instead. Two batters later, Jared King lost a lazy fly ball to RF in the lights, and it bounced behind him and then over the wall for a double – I guess that’s the best result you can get when an outfielder loses the ball with no help around. King made up for his mistake in the field with a nice day at the plate, as he was involved in all 3 run scoring innings. In the end, just like with game 1, the B-Mets could only keep battling back offensively so many times.
Check out the highlights from this game, as well as more on Parnell’s appearance, below. This series concludes Thursday at 6:35 PM, with Luis Cessa scheduled to pitch at home for Binghamton.

Recap

I guess the 51s offense still hasn’t made it through baggage at the Las Vegas airport, as their dreadful road trip continued against Tim Cooney and the Redbirds Tuesday night. It’s the second shutout thrown against the 51s in 3 games, and they’ve scored just 3 runs during the first 5 games of this trip. Surely the home ballparks have made a difference, but this is what happens when an entire lineup gets cold at once, and I expect them to break out with a vengeance against some poor PCL pitcher soon – they do get the boost of Danny Muno coming back from the Mets. Bowman essentially made one mistake in the game, leaving a fastball down the middle the was deposited well beyond the LF wall, so hopefully he can build on this despite the less than stellar final line. The bullpen did a solid job, although Jon Velasquez couldn’t work around poor defense behind him in the 8th, allowing the Redbirds to add some unnecessary insurance runs.
Check out highlights from this game below, including more on Bowman. This series continues Wednesday night at 8:05 PM, with Logan Verrett scheduled to re-enter the 51s rotation.

Recap

The B-Mets would come from behind to tie this game up on 3 occasions Tuesday night, but in the end, the B-Mets bullpen couldn’t get the key outs, allowing the Thunder to walk away winners in the opener. Starter Rainy Lara allowed a run on 3 straight singles in the 1st, but managed to strand runners on 2B and 3B to keep things from getting out of hand early. The B-Mets tied it in the 3rd (see scoring details below), but Lara would give the lead right back, allowing a triple to Dante Bichette that led to a run. Again they tied it in the 5th, and again the Thunder jumped right back on top in the next frame. With two on and two outs in the 6th, Rainy Lara was at his pitch limit (if not beyond it), which forced manager Pedro Lopez to bring in Chase Huchingson, who has struggled most of the year. Chase would allow both runners to score before getting a groundout to end the frame. But again, the B-Mets scratched out a run in the 6th and 7th inning to tie the game, and again the pitching staff gave it right back in the 8th. Before a wild Kolarek gave up a pair in the 8th, Vic Black worked a perfect 7th, finishing the frame with a strikeout. Three walks and a wild pitch were too much for Kolarek to work around in the 8th, and the Thunder had finally built a lead that would last. The B-Mets had two more hits left in their lineup, both coming in the 8th, but the threat would end with Cecchini and Conforto due up.
Check out the scoring highlights and more on Black below. For some post-game quotes from Conforto and Lopez, check out Lynn Worthy’s recap here. The series continues Wednesday night at 6:35 PM, with Gabriel Ynoa scheduled to pitch for Binghamton. The B-Mets need a win to stay above .500.
