            The Las Vegas 51s dropped a second straight in Sacramento Tuesday night, as River Cats starter Matt Gage turned in seven sparkling innings for a 3-1 win. 51s starter Mitch Atkins wasn’t bad either, but his quality-start worthy outing got almost no run support. The 51s offense has been middle of the pack in the PCL this season, and this lineup was missing four of the teams top 2017 performers (Amed Rosario, Dominic Smith, Kevin Plawecki, and Travis Taijeron), so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they struggled to score. Plus, three of Tuesday’s starters were playing for St. Lucie two weeks ago, and that’s a big jump.

            The Las Vegas 51s dropped their finale in Fresno Friday night, blowing a 2-1 lead late and a chance for a road sweep of one of the top teams in the PCL. Mitch Atkins turned in another strong performance for Las Vegas, allowing just one run on two hits over six innings, but he left trailing 1-0, and the 51s pen couldn’t match his success. The 51s scratched out just five hits and didn’t get on the scoreboard until the 8^th, when they temporarily took the lead.

            After falling behind 4-0 early, the Las Vegas 51s scored seven straight en route to a 7-4 win over El Paso Sunday night. The win puts them ahead two games to one in the series, which gives them a chance for a rare 2017 road series win on Monday. Mitch Atkins fell behind big early, but he’s a veteran, so he made his adjustments quickly and put up four straight scoreless while his teammates jumped ahead 6-4. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas pen bounced back from a rough first two games of this series to put up two scoreless, which sealed the deal on the 51s 46^th win of the season.
