            The Columbia Fireflies offense saved the fireworks for after the home finale Thursday night, putting up a goose egg during the game against Asheville for a third straight loss to the Tourists. Cola starter Darwin Ramos fell behind early and left down 4-0 after six innings, but even a great outing from him would’ve needed some run support. Logan Longwith gave the Tourists a very good outing, taking the shutout into the 7^th with just five base runners allowed without the aid of an error.

            The Columbia Fireflies took another blowout loss in their finale with Greenville Thursday, making it three lopsided games in three nights during this series. The Fireflies jumped out to a 14-0 lead in game one of this series, but the Drive have outscored Columbia 33-5 since, so the Fireflies have several problems to iron out as they head to Hickory next.  A night after Martin Anderson allowed eight unearned runs, Cola starter Justin Brantley allowed nine earned runs, and he struck out nine over his four innings of work.

            The Columbia Fireflies set a Fireflies franchise record Sunday night against Rome by playing a game beyond the 14^th inning for the first time ever, as they took an unfortunate 11-6 loss to the Braves in 16 innings. The game was a back-and-forth affair early on, and then both sides just stopped scoring until the 16^th, when Rome exploded for a six-run frame. Cola starter Darwin Ramos was effective early but gave up some loud contact over his final three frames, which allowed Rome to jump ahead as they knocked him out in the 6^th. After Ramos left, the Cola pen combined for 9+ innings of shutout ball, with just four singles allowed between the 7^th and 15^th innings. This allowed the Fireflies to tie things up with a run in the 8^th, but then the Rome pen started matching the Cola pen zero-for-zero, and so this game dragged on until position players had to take over on the mound for both sides.
