Recap:

I was very excited when I heard of Michael Fulmer’s promotion to Binghamton and impending start on MiLB.tv, because this is my first chance to watch Michael Fulmer start in 2014, and I was very excited. The results may not have been ideal for his AA debut, as he couldn’t finish the 4th inning, but I think there were some positives for Fulmer to build over the final few weeks. As far as the game was concerned, the Mets offense could not come up with key hits all night, taking the goose egg in the middle game of this series in Erie. It’s not easy to have seven different players with a hit, nine hits overall, and not score, but it’s even harder to believe they didn’t score when you consider the THREE Erie errors – talk about frustrating on both sides of the ball. The one time the Mets did get a key hit – a two-out single from Brian Burgamy with Brandon Nimmo on 2B in the 3rd – Nimmo was thrown out trying to score.

Recap:

The Binghamton Mets offense was clicking all game Monday night, helping the Mets roll to an 11-4 victory over the Erie Sea Wolves in game one of a three-game set. Mets starter Greg Peavey continued to be too good for AA over his 5.1 strong innings, although he has generally been good for six innings with Binghamton. He ran into a little trouble in the 4th and was bailed out by Chase Huchingson in the 6th, but, otherwise, Peavey was in typical AA form. Sea Wolves starter Jeff Ferrell was knocked out during a rough 3rd inning, forcing the Erie bullpen into extended duty early in this series. Jayce Boyd, T.J. Rivera, and Travis Taijeron combined for ten of the fifteen Mets hits, and four of the five Mets extra base hits. Chase would bridge the gap from Peavey to the 9th inning, when Dario Alvarez came in and worked around two-out single for a scoreless frame, picking up two extra base hits along the way. The Mets will look to clinch a series win Tuesday night behind Angel Cuan.

Recap:

The Binghamton Mets socked three homeruns in taking the opener of a four game series at Reading Friday night. Starter Rainy Lara was not as his sharpest, lasting only 3.2 IP with five runs allowed, but their bullpen calmed things down, and the Mets offense had enough to overcome the Reading comeback in the end. Hansel Robles came in for Lara with two on and two outs in the 4th and got Kelly Dugan swinging, providing one of the biggest outs of the game – Dugan would later homer.

2014 Tuesday Morning Mets Minors Players of the Week

August 5 – 11, 2014

Keeping track of the hottest minor leaguers in the Mets farm system. This post has been moved back a day after last week – I wasn’t going to cover less than a full week. I will cover the short-season teams every other week (aka two more times starting next week).

Hitter of the Week: To me, it’s a tough call between Brian Burgamy and Yeixon Ruiz, but Burgamy has the edge. Not sure what the BMets are doing with a 33-year old, but the switch hitter has been hitting all year.
Starting Pitcher of the Week: Rafael Montero was dominant, won the PCL pitchers of the week award, and got a promotion to the Mets – what a great week. The only hit he allowed was a single to lead off the 5th.
Relief Pitcher of the Week: Has to go to Jacob Lugo of the St. Lucie Mets for the five innings of relief he put in after Hefner re-injured his arm. He has been a reliable long man all year.
Team of the Week: The BMets had a better overall record, but the Gnats survived three double headers and still had a great week.

4-2 record

Pitchers

Cory Mazzoni – 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 8 SO, 101 Pitches (71 Strikes), 3 GO: 4 FO
Rafael Montero – 8 IP, H, 2 BB, 11 SO, 105 Pitches (73 Strikes), 5 GO: 5 FO
Logan Verrett – 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 SO, 99 Pitches (65 Strikes), 9 GO: 7 FO

Chase Bradford – 3 G, 2 Saves, 2.2 IP, H, 6 SO, .211 OPS
Gonzalez Germen – 2 G, 1 Save, 3 IP, H, 3 SO, .200 OPS

Batters

Allan Dykstra – 22 PA, .389/.455/.611, 7-18, 3 R, 2 2B, 3B, 5 RBI, 3 BB, SF, 5 SO, GIDP
Matt Reynolds – 27 PA, .320/.333/.360, 8-25, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB, SF, SB, 5 SO, GIDP
Anthony Seratelli – 21 PA, .400/.571/.400, 6-15, 3 R, 5 RBI, 6 BB, SO
Taylor Teagarden – 4-7, R, HR, 4 RBI, BB, 2 SO

Recap:

The BMets got back to their winning ways Friday night behind the hot arm of starter Greg Peavey. Peavey, who has struggled to adjust to AAA with the Las Vegas 51s, continued to prove too good for AA, needing only 100 pitches to get through 8 IP. Infielders Brian Burgamy and T.J. Rivera kept hitting, each providing a big hit in the key 4th inning rally that would give the Mets a permanent lead. Jayce Boyd provided a solo blast to CF in the 6th to put the Mets up 3-1, his fifth homerun of the season. On an odd play in the 7th, the BMets scored two runs on a strikeout. With Nimmo on 2B and Ceciliani on 3B, Herrera chased a pitch in the dirt and then bolted for 1B. The ball bounced in front of the catcher O’Brien, who recovered it and checked on 3B before throwing to 1B for the out. As soon as O’Brien made the throw to 1B, Ceciliani broke for home, making it safely without a throw. There was no return throw home because the ball was dropped at 1B (trying to take it out of his glove), and Nimmo had bolted for 3B, which is where the throw ended up going. Nimmo was likely going to be safe at 3B anyway, but the throw sailed up the LF line, so Nimmo got up and bolted home. Peavey gave way to Jon Velasquez for the 9th, and he struck out the side to finish the game.
