            The B-Mets played a nail biter with the Fisher Cats at home Friday night, taking a scoreless game into the 11^th, which is when Binghamton finally broke through for a walk-off win. Jared King would provide the heroics by coming through with a sac fly, but three of the elder statesmen on the team set the run up: Vince Belnome took a one out walk, Joe Benson singled Belnome to 3B, and then they intentionally walked Jonathan Galvez to load the bases. Starters Matt Koch and Taylor Cole were brilliant, looking in control even as a few batters found their way on base throughout the game. For B-Mets starter Koch, this was his best start of the year, although he has been relieving for most of the season. The only hard hit ball Koch allowed was a double off the bat of Ryan Schimpf leading off the 2^nd ining, and then Koch retired the next 3 batters on strikeouts. An error and a single in the 4^th put runners on the corners against Koch with only one out, but he would retire the next two on lazy fly outs. The B-Mets had a few chances to score against Cole, but they weren’t squaring the ball well up against him, which is exactly what happened when they faced him last week. Adam Kolarek, Paul Sewald, and Jeff Walters relieved Koch with 4 scoreless innings until Binghamton broke through in the 11^th. It was the B-Mets third straight win, and 7^th walkoff win of the season.

            B-Mets starter Matt Koch was just a little too hittable Sunday night, and Fisher Cats starter Taylor Cole was just the opposite over the first 8 innings, which left Binghamton down 4-0 as the game reached the 9^th inning. The Binghamton Mets managed to put together a 3-run rally in the 9^th, but it was too little, too late for this game. Xorge Carrillo and Josh Rodriguez had big days at the plate, but the B-Mets would manage only 2 other singles against Cole during his 8+ innings. Koch would work around trouble in the 1^st, and throw 1-2-3 frames in the 2^nd and 4^th innings, but couldn’t work around multiple hits allowed in the 3^rd, 5^th, and 6^th innings. Four of the nine hits allowed by Koch went for extra bases, but they were all hit to Brock Peterson in LF, and he had a poor game in the outfield. I’m not suggesting that all of those extra base hits to LF would’ve been caught by another left fielder, but a more conservative approach could have at least limited the number of bases taken multiple times. Adam Kolarek came in to relieve Koch in the 6^th, and he would strand an inherited runner on 3B to finish the frame, and then work a scoreless 7^th. Erik Goeddel looked very sharp working a scoreless 8^th, sitting 93-94 MPH and showing that sharp curve, so hopefully he’ll be back with the Mets soon.

            The Binghamton Mets offense continued to sputter in New Britain Saturday night, and they fell 3-1 to the Rock Cats for a second straight loss. B-Mets starter Matt Koch provided a strong performance over his 5.2 IP, but only a scoreless effort would’ve netted him the win on this night, as the offense managed just a run on 5 hits. Gavin Cecchini started the game with a double for Binghamton, but the Mets couldn’t even get him to 3B, and they’d only get a runner that far in the 6^th inning. New Britain would take advantage of an error from L.J. Mazzilli (his 10^th) in the bottom of the 1^st inning, scoring on a grounder that took an advantageous deflection off of Koch. The Cats would scratch out a pair of runs against Koch in the 4^th, and then their pitching did the rest of the heavy lifting.

            The B-Mets won their fourth straight Monday night in New Britain behind a great start from Seth Lugo, and a doubles outburst for 3 runs in the 4^th. Lugo had a great start, working efficiently through 7 innings as he collected 8 strikeouts, and getting filthier as the start went on. For most of the game, the B-Mets batters struggled to get anything going against Shane Carle, but 3 straight RBI doubles in the 4^th inning was all the offense this great B-Mets pitching needed.

            Lugo retired the first two batters in the 1^st inning in quick order, but then put the B-Mets behind 1-0 after he grooved a fastball to Pat Valaika. He’d allow only 3 singles the rest of the way, working ahead in the count most of the night, which led to a lot of early contact when he wasn’t striking batters out.

            Matt Koch took over in relief of Lugo for the 8^th inning, and the Cats would load the bases before he could record an out. After trading the first out for a run on a groundout to 1B, Koch retired the next two batters in strikeouts to end the frame with a 3-2 lead. Jon Velasquez would work a perfect 9^th inning, retiring the final two batters on strikeouts.

            The series continues Tuesday night at 7:05 PM, with Gabriel Ynoa (6-6, 3.87 ERA) scheduled to pitch for the B-Mets.
