Recapish

The Columbia Fireflies wasted numerous opportunities Tuesday night as they dropped the opener of a three-game series with Asheville in extras. This is the Fireflies final home series of the year and they did not get things started on the right foot. The team went a combined 0-10 with runners in scoring position as they left twelve runners on base. Cola starter Marty Anderson and the Fireflies pen did a good job of limiting the number of Tourists on the bases throughout the night, but those Tourists eventually broke through in the 13th to take a 3-2 win.

Recapish

After taking the opener in a blowout Tuesday night, the Columbia Fireflies had the tables turned on them in game two Wednesday as the Greenville Drive evened the series with a 16-5 win. Cola starter Martin Anderson had one of the weirdest final lines you’ll see, as he allowed eight unearned runs in the 2nd and still stuck around to toss three scoreless innings after that. The Fireflies offense was quiet for most of the game but they did manage to put a pair of crooked numbers on the board late, which kept the deficit from getting too far out of hand.

Recapish

After sweeping through Augusta this past week, the Columbia Fireflies returned home on the heels of a three-game winning streak Friday but then dropped their opener with Rome 6-3. Due to a double-header, it was the first of five these two teams will play in a series that wraps around the weekend and concludes on Eclipse Monday. Marty Anderson made his fourth start since joining the Fireflies and it was another mixed performance for him. He allowed four runs on a pair of homers in Rome’s big 4th, which was the difference in this game, but he allowed just one run over his other four innings of work, and he actually did a good job missing bats between those homers in the 4th.
