Recap
The
B-Mets have been getting some amazing starting pitching lately, and Gabriel
Ynoa kept the run going Thursday night in Erie with what might end up the start
of the year. Ynoa was working quickly and efficiently, and he would allow only
the one hit – a two out double off the wall in the 3rd – and worked
around a two out error from Gavin Cecchini in the 7th. The Mets
handed him a lead before he even took the mound, and then extended it with a
big 2nd inning – check out the scoring details and highlights below.
Ynoa
was attacking the edges of the zone effectively in this start, leading to a lot
of weak contact. He started dropping in what appeared to be a useful looking
curveball more often as the start went on, getting a lot of called strikes with
it at first, and then some swinging strikes once Erie started looking for it.
He’s been known to throw a curve in the past, but his slider has been described
as slurvy at times too, so maybe he just felt that motion was working for him in
this start - either way, the pitch was effective. Outside of the double from
Harold Castro in the 3rd, the Erie batters squared nothing up
against Ynoa, which led to a lot of weak contact, as you can see in the spray
chart below. You can check out his 6 strikeouts at the bottom of the page.
This
series wraps up Friday night at 7:05 PM, with Luis Cessa scheduled to make the
start on MiLB.com (although it’s been rumored that Michael Gibbons will make
the spot start).
Scoring Highlights
Gavin
Cecchini led off the game with a single hit back up the middle, and then L.J.
Mazzilli advanced him to 2B with a single to LF. After a force out, Brock
Peterson singled home Cecchini to make it a 1-0 game.
Josh Rodriguez led off the 2nd with a single, and then Aderlin Rodriguez made it a 3-0 game with his 8th bomb of the year. With two outs in the inning, Cecchini drew a walk, Mazzilli doubled him to 3B, and then Michael Conforto singled them both home.
Bonus
Gavin
Cecchini had a number of successful chances Thursday night, but committed his
18th error on a grounder in the 7th.
