Recapish
The
Brooklyn Cyclones started their series in Aberdeen with a big come from behind
6-5 win thanks to Brandon Brosher and his two bombs. Both of Brosher’s homers
tied the game, and then the Cyclones were able to jump ahead for good in
extras.
The
Cyclones turned to Nabil Crismatt for the opener and he had a rough start to
his outing before seriously turning it on. Cole Billingsley started the 1st
with a homer to RF and then Aberdeen added two more runs in the frame. But
Crismatt retired the final two batters of the 1st, and then the next
12 in a row before exiting down 3-0 after 5. The Aberdeen announcer mentioned
Crismatt was around 89 MPH with his heater and 69 MPH with his curve, and the
combo led to a ton of swinging strikes. More than half of the swings Aberdeen
took resulted in whiffs, which is pretty ridiculous from a starter.
Crismatt’s
great run and a scoreless 6th from Dillon Becker gave Brooklyn some
momentum heading into the 7th, which is when they finally broke
through against Iron Birds starter Alex Wells. Peter Alonso started the frame
with his second double of the season and Jacob Zanon knocked Wells out with a
single to bring home Alonso. Brosher then struck for the first time, blasting a
two-run shot to left center field with two outs against Xavier Borde to tie the
game.
With
the game reset, Crismatt’s piggyback starter Joel Huertas came in, and he also
ran into a little trouble during his first inning of the night. Aberdeen
regained the lead with an RBI triple and sac fly in the frame before Huertas
settled in.
The
Iron Birds held their 5-3 lead until Brosher’s next AB, which came with two
outs in the 9th. Brosher again tied the game with a two-run blast
and this time Huertas was able to hold the tie in the next frame.
This
game extended until the 11th, when Jay Jabs scored on a bases loaded
walk to give Brooklyn their first lead of the night. Joseph Zanghi then struck
out the side in the bottom of the 11th for his first save of the
season.
I break down the Cyclones scoring
and defensive highlights below, so enjoy!
MiLB.tv Scoring Highlights
Gene
Cone led off the game with his first of two hits on the night but was stranded
at 3B.
Peter
Alonso led off the 7th with a double and then came around to score
on an RBI single from Jacob Zanon. Brandon Brosher then tied the game with a
long homer to left center field.
Zanon
hit a one out single in the 9th and then Brosher again tied the game
with a homer two batters later. Arnaldo Berrios and Cone followed with two out
singles but their threat came up 90 feet short of taking the lead.
Jay
Jabs had the only hit during the 11th, when Brooklyn took a lead on
a bases loaded walk to Cone.
MiLB.tv Defensive Highlights
Let's go around the infield: Jay Jabs at 3B, Colby Woodmansee at SS, Nick Sergakis at 2B, and that Pistol Pete split at 1B.
Arnaldo Berrios made a nice diving catch in right field.
