Post-game recap: As
he generally has been this year, Miller Diaz was wildly effective for St. Lucie
Wednesday night, matching a season high 7 strikeouts over 5.2 IP, with some decent
stuff this time. He walked the second batter of the game, and then allowed
an RBI double, but then retired 12 straight. Meanwhile, the Mets took over the
lead. Cruzado hit a one out double in the 2nd, and then scored on Lednier
Ricardo’s first RBI hit in the minors. Jairo Perez doubled and scored on a
single from Cruzado in the 4th, making it a 2-1 game. Diaz would
have to be removed after allowing a walk and single in the 6th, but
Coles bailed him out of the frame. A wild pitch strikeout would come back to
burn Coles for a run in the 7th, as Jupiter momentarily tied the
game. St. Lucie took over this game in the bottom of the 7th when 9
of 10 batters reached, with Jairo Perez and Dominic Smith providing RBI doubles
in the frame. Hilario had a great 9th inning for St. Lucie, which is
hopefully a sign that he’s over his June swoon.

Post-game recap: The
Sand Gnats got another strong performance from Indy-league import Casey
Delgado, who had allowed just 3 runs on less than 90 pitches entering the 9th,
but the offense wasn’t there to back him against the Green Jackets starter D.J.
Snelten. The Gnats would jump out to a 1-0 lead in this game when Leroux led
off the 2nd with a double, and then scored on an RBI single from
Tuschak. Augusta jumped on top in the 5th when Jeremy Sy hit a two
run double with two outs in the frame. Nido led off the 6th with a
triple to CF, and then scored on an RBI single from Mora to tie the game. The
game remained tied until the 8th, when Brennan Metzger scored after
hitting a one out triple to LF. A throwing error from Delgado in the 9th
opened the door for two more runs, but Baldonado was on the mound when both
runners scored.

Post-game recap: The
Cyclones offense connected for 7 runs on 12 hits in the opener against Hudson
Valley, but starter Tyler Badamo stole the show, facing the minimum over 7 IP
on just 63 pitches – are you freaking kidding me taking him out at that
point?!?! He was handed a 2-0 lead before he even took the mound thanks to a
rookie level 1st from the Renegades. There were 2 walks, 2 errors,
and only 1 hit. Reyes led off the 3rd with a double, and then scored
on a sac fly from Thompson. Thompson added an RBI single in the 5th after
Bernal singled and went to 2B on a wild pitch. Natanael Ramos hit his first
homerun of the year with Kaupe on 1B in the 6th, and Pedro Perez
added a solo blast pinch-hitting in the 9th. It’s early in the
season, and it seems like Gamboa likes to get certain guys a pinch-hitting AB
the night before a start. Badamo allowed a leadoff single to LF in the 3rd,
but the runner was erased on a 5-4-3 double play, and the other 6 innings he
pitched were perfect. What a great start to his season, I wonder if he (or any
Brooklyn starter) could force his way into the Savannah rotation second half.

Post-game recap: Kingsport
fell behind big early, as starter Connor Buckmann was both wild and hit hard,
leaving them 7 behind after just 2 innings. Ever resilient, the K-Mets started
battling back in the 3rd inning, picking up 2 runs on a two out
triple from Arnaldo Berrios. But Almeida would give those runs right back in
the bottom of the 3rd, allowing the 2 runs on 3 walks and a single.
Berrios would pick up another run scoring hit in the 5th, knocking
in Ramirez with the aid of an E8. Dash added his second blast of the year
leading off the 8th, but there was never much steam for a comeback
after that 3rd inning. Dillon Becker made his pro debut in the 7th,
settling down to retire the final 5 batters after allowing the first 2 to reach
on a walk and single – he’d induce two pop outs and a strikeout swinging in the
8th.

Post-game recap: The
GCL Mets faced less than
stellar stuff from the GCL Cardinals starter, jumping on him for all 12
runs, as every Mets batter had a hit by the end of the 3rd. They
managed 3 hits over the first 2 innings, but couldn’t capitalize until the 3rd.
in the 3rd, Barring led things off with his first pro hit, a single,
and then the GCL Mets got 8 more hits – every player picked up a hit in the
inning before there was an out. Burick hit a 3-run homerun. Dimino’s first pro
hit was a 2 run double. And De Aza hit an RBI ground-rule double to finish the
streak. German did not having a great start for the GCL Mets – he allowed a hit
in 5 of 6 innings – but worked out of trouble in the 1st, 2nd,
and 6th, and limited the damage to 1 run in the 3rd and 4th
innings. The speedy
Barring sparked the 6th inning rally with a triple to RF, and
then scored on an RBI single from Crisostomo. Bautista and Rasquin would add
RBI singles in the frame, as the Mets extended their lead to 12-2. Side-arming
righty Alejandro Castro threw another scoreless inning in his second pro
appearance for a clean 7th inning. 18-year old Marbin Montijo worked
around a pair of walks for a scoreless 8th, but allowed a 3 run
homerun after 2 more walks in the 9th – check out video of the kid here.
Minors MVP of the Day
– T.J. Rivera finished a homerun shy of the cycle, and he’s been very hot
lately, slashing .415/.441/.662 since June 11th.
