The Binghamton Rumble Ponies opened a weekend series by beating the Erie Sea Wolves 4-1 behind starter Nabil Crismatt Friday night. Crismatt bounced back from his last outing against Portland – when he allowed 11 base runners over 4+ innings and took a loss – to strikeout 9 Sea Wolves over six very strong innings. It’s the second time in three starts that Crismatt has finished with 9 strikeouts over six strong innings of work, and, in total, he’s at 21 K: 3 BB over 16 innings this season. Crismatt’s strong outing was supported by a big night from Patrick Mazeika, who finished a triple shy of the cycle, and strong performances out of the pen by Daniel Zamora and Tyler Bashlor, who finished with three strikeouts apiece over three scoreless innings.

Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies dropped the second game of their now three-game series in New Hampshire 5-4 to the Fisher Cats Wednesday night. Ponies starter Joe Shaw did a solid job against one of the better lineups in minor league ball, but he couldn’t close out the 6th and the Fisher Cats took advantage for a three-run lead that proved to be just enough for the win. The 6th proved to be the key inning in this one, as the Rumble Ponies put two on the board to tie it in the top half only to see the Cats jump back ahead. Binghamton had a good chance to at least tie things up in the 9th, but they couldn’t come through with a big hit after loading the bases to start the frame.

Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies finally got on the field after two straight rainouts and took the first game of their series in New Hampshire 4-3 over the Fisher Cats. The Fisher Cats have two of the top prospects in infielders Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., so the Ponies staff will have their hands full this series. Marcos Molina and four relievers took care of business against those two in game one, holding them to 1-9 with a walk, an RBI and 3 strikeouts, and retiring them in some key situations. Meanwhile, the Ponies hit three go-ahead solo blasts to drive their offense, with the last lead finally sticking.

Recapish

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies were shutout by the Akron Wednesday night as the Ducks completed a three-game sweep at NYSEG with a 4-0 win. The Ponies were forced to rely on ‘Johnny Wholestaff’ to pitch the game after their originally scheduled starter was sent to the PCL for a start with the 51s on Tuesday. Four Ponies relievers combined to give Binghamton a chance, but the Ponies offense couldn’t get anything going against Ducks starter Aaron Civale and three Ducks relievers.
