This
is a series breakdown for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies final regular season
series of 2017. Given the timing of the post, this format seemed more
appropriate than individual recaps, but there are more highlights included
below than in the three similar early season posts that are also going up
today. This was originally scheduled to be a 4-game series, but rain led to the
cancellation of the game on 9/3 – they weren’t going to schedule an unnecessary
double-header for the final day of the season.

Series in Review
The
Binghamton Rumble Ponies started their final series of the season with a 1-0
behind Corey Oswalt and company. Oswalt was on a limited pitch count with his
postseason start coming up, but he still managed 8 strikeouts over 5 scoreless
for his 12th win of the season. Drew Smith struck out 4 in relief,
and then Tim Peterson (2 more) and Tyler Bashlor (1) pushed the total to 15
strikeouts (against just one walk) for Binghamton pitchers. Neither side had an
extra base hit, but the Ponies doubled the Goats hit total for the game, so
they had a few more chances by default. Patrick Biondi singled, stole second
and scored the games only run in the 4th. David Thompson and Peter
Alonso joined Biondi with multi-hit games in the win.

The
Ponies made it two-straight 1-0 wins behind Ricky Knapp and company in the
second game of the series. The Yard Goats actually outhit Binghamton 8-to-4
this time (the reverse of game one), but the Ponies still had more base runners
when you include walks. Just like in game one, Patrick Biondi singled, stole
second (1 of 3 stolen bases for him in this game) and scored the games only
run, although this time he waited until the 8th to do so. Biondi had
another multi-hit game, and Thompson drove him in this time. The other hit was
a pinch-hit double for Kevin Taylor.

Binghamton
scored nine unanswered runs in the finale to finish off a series sweep of Hartford.
The Yard Goats scored 3 against Marcos Molina in the 2nd, but then 5
Ponies relievers combined for 7 scoreless innings of work as Binghamton stormed
ahead thanks to a pair of Kevin’s: Kevin Kaczmarski finished with 3 hits, a
walk and 3 runs scored from the 2-hole, while Kevin Taylor finished with 3 hits
(including 2 doubles), a walk and 4 RBI’s from the 4-hole.
