Hitter of the
Month: Michael Conforto is a better hitting prospect than the Mets have
had in a long time, and he’s really been taking care of business at the plate since
his promotion to AA.
Starting Pitcher of
the Month: John Gant was sent down to the FSL right before June and
he’s been dealing ever since. His 48 strikeouts in 40.1 IP with St. Lucie are
currently 4th most on the team, only 9 behind Robert Whalen’s team
high of 57 K’s, which he’s done over 79.1 IP.
Relief Pitcher of
the Month: Bring on the BOOM! Lefty David Roseboom breezed through the
SAL this year and is off to a quick start in the FSL.
Team of the Month:
Easy pick, as the Sand Gnats had the best overall record, and they clinched a
playoff spot with a first-half division title.

HR, 13 RBI, 8 BB, HBP, SB, 28 SO, 2 GIDP; Spent
time playing 1B/3B/LF/CF/RF in June, and was the main center fielder for a
week, so he can be an interesting utility bench guy

RBI, 9 BB, 2 HBP, SF, 20 SO, 2 GIDP; Still
weird to see Conrad batting third for Las Vegas some games, but he’s provided
some big hits, including a pinch-hit go-ahead grand slam in the top of the 9th
against Fresno

BB, HBP, SB, 15 SO, GIDP; Numbers include
his 1-10 in the majors this month, and I still think he can be useful off the
bench down the road

HR, 3 BB, HBP, SH, SB, 9 SO; Numbers do
not include his time in the majors with LAA this month. Yes he struggled off
the bench for the Mets, but maybe he can get his bat right playing regularly in
Las Vegas for a few weeks

include his 1-15 in the majors this month, and almost all of the damage was
done during the final week of June
Matt Reynolds – 102 PA, .267/.324/ .422, 19 R, 6 2B, 3B, 2
HR, 15 RBI, 7 BB, 2 HBP, 3 SF, SB, 16 SO, 3 GIDP; Cut down on his strikeouts (15.7%), has an average ISO for the league,
but didn’t walk much (6.9%), and missed time at the end of the month with a
sore wrist. Fans down on Reynolds this year need to realize these numbers are
with a .293 BABIP (.319 BABIP for the season), which is way down from last year
(.404 BABIP in 2014 with Las Vegas)
T.J. Rivera – 82 PA, .308/.333/.474, 11 R, 10 2B, HR, 11
RBI, 2 BB, HBP, SH, 9 SO, 2 GIDP; Impressive
overall line for the month after an 0-17 start, and it seems like he’s making
better contact in the PCL than he did in the EL (but that could be the PCL
mirage)
Travis Taijeron – 98 PA, .263/.378/.563, 16 R, 4 2B, 3B, 6
HR, 19 RBI, 11 BB, 5 HBP, 2 SF, 28 SO, GIDP, CS; He’s been consistently producing even with a sky high K%, and he’s got
some nice right handed power, but would he make enough contact against major
league pitching to stay productive?
Dan Rohlfing – 25 PA, .318/.400/.500, 4 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 3
BB, 4 SO; He’ll probably spend some time
backing up in the majors some day, but it would take a lot of injuries and/or a
trade for him to get that time with the Mets. Solid receiver though
Wilfredo Tovar – 109 PA, .300/.358/.350, 16 R, 2 2B, HR, 10
RBI, 9 BB, 8 SB, 8 SO, 2 GIDP, 6 CS; No
longer stealing bases with efficiency, but it’s something for him to work at
while he fine tunes his craft at AAA – he’s not going to start hitting for
power, but his glove will get him a role in the majors some day if he can
provide some other value too
Cory Vaughn – 49 PA, .159/.245/.273, 5 R, 2 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 5
BB, 16 SO; Looks like it won’t be long
until someone is stamping his passport in Japan or Korea, as he starts the next
phase of his career

been the ace of the stuff to this point, but will have some competition for
that role moving forward. Still, he’s learning to use his secondaries more, so
he could see a bump in K% over the second half – made the All Star team
Michael Fulmer – 5 G, 2.12 ERA, 29.2 IP, 22 H, 9 R (7 ER), 5
BB, 28 SO, 2 HR, .564 OPS, 15% Swinging strikes; Only 1 ER allowed over his final 4 starts in June, his fastball/slider
combination has been extremely nasty lately
Robert Gsellman – 5 G, 3.19 ERA, 31 IP, 29 H, 11 R, 13 BB,
20 SO, HR, .649 OPS, 6% Swinging strikes; Strong
numbers for his first month in AA, as he provided a quality start in each
appearance
Seth Lugo – 4 G, 7.06 ERA, 21.2 IP, 29 H, 21 R (17 ER), 7
BB, 13 SO, 2 HR, HBP, .868 OPS, 6% Swinging strikes; Rough month, as he can’t seem to avoid the big inning in his starts,

are letting him try to figure things out against righties for now. He should be
fine as a LOOGY if the Mets need one

9 SO, 2 HBP, .614 OPS, 9% Swinging strike; He’s
been really good for the B-Mets in a late-inning/multi-inning role since moving
to the pen

he has allowed a 3.77 ERA/.520 OPS/21 K% since switching to his new arm slot, although

BABIP during the month, but he wasn’t able to help in other ways either. Try to

when the hits weren’t falling, he was still hitting the ball well, reaching the
deep Akron warning track twice in one game for 2 outs. Wouldn’t surprise me if
the Mets decided to roll the dice with him eventually, but I’d otherwise expect
him to spend most (if not all) of July in AA
Albert Cordero – 34 PA, .200/.294/.300, 4 R, HR, 3 RBI, 3
BB, HBP, 7 SO; The switch-hitter has
struggled from both sides as the B-Mets backup catcher in his first taste off
AA
Gilbert Gomez – 19 PA, .167/.211/.222, R, 2B, BB, 4 SO,
GIDP; Hasn’t played since 6/13, and
wasn’t getting much playing time before that

still getting his timing back, but looks pretty good at 2B

games immediately following a 9-game hitting streak, but it’s just good to see
him healthy and playing at full speed again – made the All Star team

40 SO, 3 HR, HBP, .519 OPS; Basically a
29 K%: 5 BB% with St. Lucie this month, and he’s really overmatched the league,
so it shouldn’t be long until he’s back up with Binghamton
Kevin McGowan – 5 G, 3.64 ERA, 29.2 IP, 25 H, 15 R (12 ER),
12 BB, 16 SO, HR, .623 OPS; McGowan is
having a strong 6-week stretch for St. Lucie, with a 2.93 ERA since May 17th,
and much of the damage against him this year has come at the end of his starts
Casey Meisner – 5 G, 2.12 ERA, 34 IP, 25 H, 8 R, 6 BB, 26
SO, 3 HR, HBP, .547 OPS; He’s allowed 1 R
or less in 9 of 13 starts this year, and pitched into the 7th inning
in 8 starts
Logan Taylor – 5 G, 2.70 ERA, 30 IP, 26 H, 12 R (9 ER), 11
BB, 13 SO, .571 OPS; Relying on weak contact
(.035 ISO allowed in June) more than missing bats, Taylor appears to be
rounding into the form that made him an interesting prospect before TJS
Robert Whalen – 6 G, 3.82 ERA, 33 IP, 27 H, 16 R (14 ER), 21
BB, 26 SO, HR, HBP, .624; It’s pretty
clear that the biggest problem for Whalen right now is his control, as FSL
batters aren’t hitting him very well - .218 AVG/.072 ISO

SO, .567 OPS; Effective month, needs to
improve that K/BB ratio

consistent for St. Lucie, and could be an interesting pen arm down the road. He
has reverse platoon splits for now, with a .488 OPS/26.4 K% vs. RHB/.889

.333 OPS; The BOOM has allowed a run in
just 2 of 26 appearances this season, and not since May 15th
Kelly Secrest – 8 G, 2.63 ERA, 13.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 11
SO, HBP, .582 OPS; Only 4 scoreless
appearances in June, but he’s generally been used for 2 innings at a time, so
his ERA isn’t as inflated

lefty has been a pleasant addition to the system this year, and he struck out 7

the season hot and since it’s been all downhill. He finished the month on the
DL after taking a HBP near the wrist area

3 BB, 15 SO, 2 GIDP; He went 0-18 during
an 8 game stretch in the middle of the month

was done during an 8-19 stretch over 5 games in the middle of June

interesting if he could play anything other than 1B/DH

being an everyday catcher in the FSL, and Plaia has slowed down significantly
as the days have gotten longer and hotter in Florida this month – didn’t help
that he was a reserve on the All Star team and coaxed into participating in the
HR derby
Amed Rosario – 105 PA, .214/.257/.255, 7 R, 4 2B, 8 RBI, 4
BB, 2 HBP, SF, 3 SB, 16 SO, CS; After a
hot May (.824 OPS), Rosario really cooled off in June, but his defense has
still been getting rave reviews
Yeixon Ruiz – 88 PA, .213/.273/.225, 8 R, 2B, 3 RBI, 7 BB,
SF, 4 SB, 20 SO, 3 CS; Interesting
defensive profile (2B/SS/CF), but Ruiz just hasn’t hit much this year
Stefan Sabol – 80 PA, .247/.275/.338, 9 R, 4 2B, HR, 6 RBI,
2 BB, HBP, 4 SB, 25 SO, GIDP; Got off to
a quick start, but those strikeout problems have reared their ugly head

.903 OPS over his last 200 PA, with 23 doubles and 2 homeruns during that span,

24-year old needs to face more advanced competition before we have an idea of what
he can be
Casey Delgado – 4 G, 3.86 ERA, 25.2 IP, 25 H, 13 R (11 ER),
BB, 25 SO, 2 HR, HBP, .652 OPS; This
control pitcher has had a nice start to his pro career, reaching a double-digit
strikeout total in just his third start, but he’s a little old for the SAL (25)
Ricky Knapp – 5 G, 2.31 ERA, 23.1 IP, 21 H, 9 R (6 ER), 4
BB, 22 SO, 2 HR, 2 HBP, .656 OPS; Most of
the damage came during his start from 6/30, when he allowed 5 R (4 ER) over 4
IP, but he had a 1.31 ERA/.541 OPS/26.5 K% over his first 9 appearances with
Savannah (34.1 IP)
Corey Oswalt – 4 G, 2.25 ERA, 24 IP, 26 H, 9 R (6 ER), 6 BB,
15 SO, HR, .685 OPS; He’s allowing a high
average (.283 in June), but not a lot of hard contact (.076 ISO)
Scarlyn Reyes – 4 G, 3.86 ERA, 25.2 IP, 16 H, 13 R (11 ER),
8 BB, 27 SO, 4 HR, HBP, .577 OPS; Being
aided by a .197 BABIP allowed, and he is another Savannah starter who is too
old for this league

lefty is having a nice year, and he’s been used for more than 1 IP in most of

scoreless streak snapped during his last appearance of the month, but he’s been

Paul Paez – 5 G, 3.46 ERA, 13 IP, 15 H, 7 R (5 ER), 4 BB, 10
SO, .748 OPS; Re-joined the Savannah
bullpen and was good in May, but allowed a run in 4 of 5 appearances during
June
Edioglis Villasmil – 5 G, 4.76 ERA, 11.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 BB,
9 SO, HR, 2 HBP, .595 OPS; He allowed a
run in 4 of 5 appearances, but also retired 12 straight during a 4-inning stint
on the last day of the month
Batters
Adrian Abreu – 39 PA, .265/.359/.353, 4 R, 3 2B, 3 RBI, 5
BB, 7 SO, GIDP; Splitting time between
catcher and 1B, this is the right level for Abreu, even though he’s a 24-year
old
Wuimer Becerra – 104 PA, .313/.365/.479, 17 R, 7 2B, 3 HR,
14 RBI, 7 BB, HBP, 2 SB, 22 SO, 3 GIDP; Really
good month for Becerra, but those looking for something to complain about will
point to his BB-rate, which could still use some work despite reaching a
monthly high of 6.7%
Patrick Biondi – 44 PA, .333/.409/.436, 6 R, 2 2B, 3B, 2
RBI, 3 BB, 2 HBP, 7 SB, 7 SO, GIDP, CS; He
was having a very good month, and strong overall season, before apparently
hurting himself on a sliding catch in CF on 6/17
Eudor Garcia – 97 PA, .261/.289/.435, 13 R, 5 2B, 3B, 3 HR,
13 RBI, 4 BB, SF, 26 SO, 2 GIDP; That K:
BB ratio needs improvement, and there are still concerns about his defense at
3B, but it’s all about the bat, and I like the bat
Luis Guillorme – 105 PA, .276/.382/.322, 13 R, 4 2B, 10 RBI,
15 BB, 3 SH, 5 SB, 19 SO, 3 GIDP, CS; Maintaining
a high OBP will be important for Guillorme, who isn’t really trying to pick up
extra base hits – the 4 doubles in June were 3 more than he had over the first
2 months combined – but his glove will get him to the upper levels, and his
advanced bat control should help keep his average up as he progresses through the
system
Jonathan
Johnson – 105 PA, .229/.385/.337, 13 R, 4 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, 18 BB, 3 HBP,
SH, 3 SB, 10 SO, GIDP, 2 CS; Maintained a
high OBP despite a .250 BABIP, but his OPS dropped big time from May (when his
.947 OPS helped earn him an All Star nod)
Jon Leroux – 86 PA, .244/.279/.280, 8 R, HR, 10 RBI, 4 BB,
21 SO, 3 GIDP; Starting the month out
hot, but finished just 4-35 since 6/13
Vicente Lupo – 58 PA, .269/.310/.500, 7 R, 3 2B, 3 HR, 10
RBI, 3 BB, HBP, 2 SF, SB, 24 SO; By far
his best month of the season, he’s got his season average over .200, now let’s
see if that OBP can get north of .300
Tyler Moore – 15 PA, .083/.200/.250, R, 3B, RBI, 2 BB, SF, 2
SO; Confusing that Moore is getting so
much playing time when he’s not hitting at all – just 8-80 this year
John Mora – 96 PA, .302/.358/.488, 9 R, 6 2B, 5 3B, 10 RBI,
7 BB, HBP, SH, SF, 3 SB, 17 SO, CS; After
a cold May (.625 OPS), Mora bounced back with an excellent June to help drive
Savannah’s run to a first-half title
Tomas Nido – 73 PA, .221/.247/.382, 5 R, 3 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 12
RBI, 3 BB, 2 SF, 22 SO, GIDP; Good
defense, some pop in the bat, but can he improve his plate discipline moving
forward?
Jean Rodriguez – 82 PA, .162/.222/.230, 8 R, 3 2B, 3B, 4
RBI, 6 BB, SH, SF, SB, 28 SO, GIDP, CS; The
athletic utility infielder struggled with his plate discipline during the month
of June
