Recap
It
was a classic PCL battle at Cashman Field Sunday, with the Chihuahuas winning
by a touchdown despite 8 runs from the 51s. Matt Bowman’s season from hell
continued, as he was torched for 6 runs on 10 hits in just 4 innings, but he’s
hardly alone in blame for this loss, as Chase Bradford allowed 3 ER in his 1.2
IP, and Jon Velasquez allowed 6 in his inning. The 51s scored 8 runs on their 9
hits, but they still only went 2-12 with RISP and left 10 runners on base.
Rehabbing
Wil Myers was the first batter Bowman faced Sunday afternoon, and he’d retire
him on a soft fly out to CF, but things went downhill after that. The next 3
batters would reach on two singles and a walk to load the bases for Brett
Wallace. Bowman struck out Wallace for the second out, but Ramiro Pena doubled
home two runs for a 2-0 El Paso lead.
The
51s would draw 3 walks in the bottom of the frame, and all 3 would come around
to score, with two of those players scoring on Taijeron’s first bomb of the
night.
A
leadoff walk to Rymer Liriano would come back to burn Bowman in the 3rd,
as advanced around the diamond on a pair of groundouts and a wild pitch
(advanced to 3B after the wild pitch). Jake Goebbert put El Paso ahead with his
first homerun of the night in the 4th, and they’d add another run to
extend their lead to 6-4.
Matt
Reynolds helped get one of those runs back in the 4th with an RBI
double, his 19th of the season, which ties him for second most in
the PCL (tied with Nick Evans).
With
Chase Bradford pitching in the 6th, El Paso strung together 5
straight singles for 3 more runs.
The
51s would scratch out a pair of runs in the 7th, but then things got
out of hand when El Paso scored 6 runs against Velasquez in the 8th.
Travis Taijeron added another bomb in the 9th, but it was far too
little and too late.
The
series wraps up Monday at 10:05 PM, with Logan Verrett scheduled to pitch for
Las Vegas.
